*bump* This is her thread. ETA: Hope nobody minds... She seems to have started on the View It seems to have started with a bang. I've been searching for a full copy to establish what she did and didn't say. The above was the fullest I have found so far. I don't hear any part where she is quoted as defending his actions or saying what he did was right. I heard her say it was unfortunate behavior and wrong. In other news I'm interested to see how The View will fair ratings wise with a new host. They've been languishing since Rosie left. I'll be interested to see if now Whoopi's joined if things will turn around. It's "indigenous", Whoopi.

Sorry, I didn't know there was another thread. Cut/copied here...
Although I didn't see the actual show, I did see what she had said about Michael Vick on the msn homepage. Incredible. She's going to be more ignorant and more obscene than Stah, and that's saying a lot.
For her to explain that people just don't understand, because it's a culture in the 'south'. Bitch, please. I'm in the south. And I've never strangled, electrocuted, or drowned a dog.
She's an idiot and although that's usually lots of fun for snarking ideas, being blind and ignorant and biased is not acceptable. I hope the show tanks because of her. I think viewers have had their fill of drama from it, and it's time to put it out to pasture.

I always liked her, but I am upset that she chose to defend Michael Vick's heinous actions. I am not even a southerner and I am offended for them. I can't believe that everyone in the south has nothing better to do with their free time so they choose to abuse animals. It isn't a cultural thing. It is an act of cruelty done by a few ignorant/vile people. I am really disappointed in her for this.

I am really mystifed by this "it's part of the culture in the south" arguement. Terrell Owens used the same arguement to defend him in an interview as well. He tortured dogs people. Anywho, I was going to watch The View but I really loathe Elizabeth.

If abusing animals is part of Southern culture, maybe ol' Sherman ought to pay us another visit.

If abusing animals is part of Southern culture, maybe ol' Sherman ought to pay us another visit. If forcing a fellow creature to live and die in fear and agony (for entertainment and mony-making) is a "part of our culture" then maybe that culture is freakin' sick! Don't they hear what they're saying??? These Vicks defenders are not doing "their culture" any favors with these ignorant statements. If I was a southerner I'd be outraged.

What an ignorant thing to say. Not only is it untrue, but there are other aspects of southern "heritage" that I'm sure Whoopi would never defend.
I can't stand this woman.

Oh for shit's sake. Slavery is also part of Southern culture, and the ku klux klan. I wonder how Whoopi feels about that?

Seriously guys, did she actually defend him and say it was okay? Or was she just highlighting that he isn't unique and that there is a subculture that some people belong to where his behavior is prevelant?
I didn't get to see completely unedited everything she said but somehow I didn't catch any part where she was saying what he did was in anyway okay. Or maybe she did and I didn't hear that bit??
