If you ever want to see how talented Whoopi used to be, check out her original HBO one woman show. That was a greatshow. Now, not so much. Yeah, that was awesome! Everything else from her has seemed like trying too hard or not trying hard enough. I thought she was great in the Color Purple, but still outshone by Oprah. Then she hosted the Oscars (I think- or it might have been a telethon or something) along side Billy Crystal and Robin Williams and just couldn't keep up and visibly stopped trying near the middle. She recited that poem that goes "First they came for the Jews and I did nothing..." and ends "And then they came for me, but there was no one left to save me" while Bobby McFaren did his weird vocal instrumentals in the background and it was AWFUL! She was trying too hard to seem hip while reciting the poem rather than just letting the poem speak for itself. Every movie I've seen her in besides The Color Purple has that "trying too hard to be hip" quality to it. I thought she would have been a breath of fresh air on The View compared to Elizabeth and Sherri. But she's usually either a lump, defending Michael Vick or saying lovely things like "It's not rape rape". Maybe shoulda stuck with one woman shows, Whoopi.

It was probably the Comic Relief fundraiser. Those three have never hosted the Oscars together though Whoopi has said she would be willing to host with Billy and Robin. I liked her on the Oscars and I used to like her fairly well personally and professionally but, in her own way, she's got herself a seat at Julia Roberts's table 'o bitterness. It's not as overt but, she's often very unpleasant but then turns around and kisses A-list butt and excuses A-list buffoonery.

Maybe if Whoopi gave a shit about doing a good job, The View would be watchable.
Whoopi rolls into the studio shortly before the show, gets minimal makeup done, and then goes on air and says stupid, uninformed things on topics she has not bothered to research (such as Roman Polanski.) Or she just lets her better prepared but incredibly stupid co-hosts (Hasselbeck, Sherri Shephard) take the floor. That's nothing to be proud of.

I think she's stoned out of her mind most days. It's no secret that she's only there for the money.
I personally still like Whoopi despite some of her dumbass comments. One thing you know for sure ... she's a kick-ass friend. If she loves you, she loves you. And while I don't get why she loves some people, I'd like a friend with that devotion.
I actually haven't been watching much. I've reached my limit of that screeching little fool (Mrs. Hasselbeck) lecturing me every morning. I would guess that she's on her way out or there would have been denial from HER. She just sat like a statue while Barbara pretended that it wasn't true. The gal who can never shut up didn't talk THEN? She's toast. Whoopi needs to pass her a smoke.

There were big problems with what she said, and she owned those in her written apology, her talking about it with Stephen Colbert, and her spoken apology on The View today. But there was also a lot of outrage over assumptions that were projected on her in the outrage. She explained on Colbert that her thinking was that a black person cannot hide being black - fair point, but probably not the time or place to make it an issue. But in her remarks she also touched on the idea that atrocities like the Holocaust happen when humans fail to see the humanity in other humans. Not only is that very true - but it was one of the key points the ADL representative made today on The View when he came on to respond to what she said. It bothers me that we live in a time where people who are paid to talk freely, who are from time to time going to say something that isn't well thought out, get blasted to this degree for daring to do their jobs speaking freely.
