I loved Whoopi as host of the Oscars, Steve Martin too and I didn't see her whinning. Others brought it up and she responded as any normal human person would, she is not a robot afterall.

I haven't seen the clip yet but I wonder what she was supposed to say? Why are women always supposed to cover up their feelings? Jennifer Garner gets kissed on the neck by a strange man and people expect her to be all smiles and happy about it. Katherine Heigl dares to say something (rightly) critical about a movie she starred in and everybody hates her for it and calls her ungrateful. Whoopi doesn't get included in an Oscar montage but crappy unfunny Billy Crystal is so why shouldn't she be allowed to at least say "yeah that wasn't too nice"? If a man does the same nobody says anything. A woman is supposed to shut up. I feel like I'm back in the 50's.

While I get what you are saying I don't think it's fair to assume that just because a person criticizes a woman it automatically means that person feels that women shouldn't speak their minds. For example, if Seth Rogen had said that he found it hard to love Knocked Up because it made the guys looks like irresponsible jerks who rather get high than take responsibility for their actions I would bust his chops just as much as I busted Katherine Heigl's. Why? Because it does lack gratitude and he, like Katherine Heigl, knew what the script said when he signed on. I guess what I'm saying is just because a person feels Whoppi is whining doesn't mean they are criticizing her because she's female. And I'll stop there because I'm entering the feminist thread territory! lol
Personally, I don't see the big deal. Elisabeth brought it up and the other hosts kinda nagged it on. It's almost like they were trying to upset her. The only thing I remember about her hosting was dressing up like Elizabeth I and wearing Nicole Kidman's outfit from Moulin Rouge. So, I guess she wasn't the most memorable host but if feels upset upset about being left out that's her right. Though I can't help but wonder if she would have even thought about it if it hadn't been brought up.

The gals that people seem to like are ones who smile for the cameras but show little personality otherwise. It's like Scarlett O'Hara (passionate, opinionated, hated) vs. Melanie Wilkes (long-suffering but always polite and cherished) dichotomy or something. I love Katherine Heigel b/c I too seem to have an opinion about everything. Whoopi wasn't "whining" she was being critical of the Academy's choices. And what a boring world it would be without these women "with mouthes."

I loved Whoopi's sensation entrance at the AAs when she descended from the ceiling in that feathered costume. she kissed Russell Crowe and when she got onstage announced, "I am the original sexy beast."

Granted, I never watch the whole show, but I don't remember there *ever* being an Oscar host who was really funny. I don't think many other people do either, since there aren't really any classic Oscar hosts jokes that get repeated in the media. Hell, the one I've heard quoted the most was David Letterman's "Uma, Oprah, Uma, Oprah," line and that was only because everyone thought it was so insanely stupid.

Did my ears deceive me or did Whoopi Goldberg actually ask John McCain "Do you want me to be a slave again?" Let me just say, I'm not a big fan of McCains and I've always liked Whoopi (she seems pretty reasonable and fair most of the time) but she truly sounds unhinged. Get a grip Whoopi. The 13th Amendment of the Constitution abolished slavery a long, long time ago. Way before you were a sparkle in your mother's eye. I'm afraid she's veering into Michael Moore, giving-liberals-a-bad-name territory.

She was reaching a bit in order to make a point, but I don't think it was all that bad: LinkWhoopi looked to be barely containing herself during the entire interview, especially during the Roe v. Wade discussion, which is when she made the slavery reference. She seemed pretty calm to me considering the circumstances.

Yeah, and saying you want to interpret the Constitution the way it was originally written is stupid. Uh, Bill of Rights, much? I think she was trying to make that point. But maybe I give her too much credit.
