And that scumbag Vick is from Newport, by D.C., how "deep south" is that?

Yeah, and dog fighting is also huge in Detroit. Also not southern. Dammit Whoopi, stop with your nonsense.

Yeah, and dog fighting is also huge in Detroit. Also not southern. Dammit Whoopi, stop with your nonsense. This I have to admit I didn't get. I have thought it was an underground activity in some deprived pockets of urban areas...in shady basements and deserted parking lots. Like underground illegal boxing or streetfighting or any other illegal gambling activities that involve violence. And that the dogfighting subculture is not black males but hispanic and white and whoever else also and is not racially distinctive. It doesn't have a race. It just came to memory thinking about this that I first saw "dogfighting culture" in a movie in Amores Perros. That film was written and filmed in urban Mexico and the characters engaged in the dogfighting were young guys living in "tha hood" IIRC? But I guess maybe it's something that goes on in the outback of rural areas? But there are rural places nationwide - not just the mythical "Deep South". I suppose she's on the right track noting that people should be aware there is a murky subculture of people doing this shit and other savage things as if they are just placing a bet on greyhound racing or boxing...both of which I consider to be savage but as they are legal they are at least monitored by official bodies even though I still think both should be banned. Thinking about foxing hunting. It's illegal in Britain now (it only took them until the late 1990s - early 2000s to finally ban it ) but people are still doing that shit illegally. They've been caught on hidden camera doing it. And these are educated supposedly upper class people who engage in a backward and barbaric activity and knowing it's illegal still doesn't seem to stop some of them insisting on doing it in the name of "sport". Also obvious to all that it is so wrong. One just wonders why they do it. I have a suspicion that Whoopi and Barbara knew ratings would go up over this. Them talking about what a big controversy her comments have stirred up on The View this morning apparently was a reflection of the expectation the ladies of The View had that it would kick off their show and draw attention...Barbara seems to have hired Whoopi to try to be the new Rosie...or something like that....but hey, they always talk about the controversial topics du jour so maybe they are not being as calculating as I am accusing them of being. Anyway I don't think it's not going to matter what she says further or in clarification on the issue. It's only going to get people more worked up so I hope they have dropped the issue by tomorrow and pick up on some other issues. Michael Vick got way too much media coverage as it was. Besides he was arrested and I expect he'll serve jailtime for the crimes he has committed so that's all that matters.

More importantly, it *is* a rough, rough place. They call it Bad Newz for a reason. And for the record, I live/work in Hampton, VA (essentially the other side of town from Newport News), and every single person I work, of every color, with that has an ounce of decency and class thinks Vick is a piece of garbage. Topic? Whoopi is talking out of her ass. Big surprise there.

I think it's sad that the media Rosied her for one misconstrued comment. Whoopi handled it better than Rosie would have, though.

Oh I'm 110% sure of that. That's what the show has become. There is nothing that can be trusted to be legit about the news content on this show anymore. And then they say it's because they're wimmin folk and so people just hate them. Yes, I'm sure lots of people have prejudiced against this show over the years because they're women, but that never got them negative media attention. The most they got for that was a few jokes in a few late night talk show monologues of which they were the punchline. This show didn't get in the news until Star lied about her weight loss, until Barbara lied about Star's future with the show, until Bitsy started crying about abortion, until Rosie accused Kelly Ripa of homophobia, until Rosie used a racial slur against Asians, until Rosie said fire can't melt steel, until Rosie etc etc etc. The media has never jumped on them because they're women. The media only jumps on them when one of them does something dumbfucked. Even though Vick's actions are criminal and those of the ladies of "The View" are not, I still think it's every bit as wrong and dishonest for them to cry misogyny to excuse their actions as it is for Whoopi or Jamie Foxx or anyone to claim racial/cultural insensitivity to excuse Michael Vick's actions.

Really? swanflake do you actually think that she defended him or excused him? Do you? I hope this is not Fox News.......No Spin Zone!!!!! Okay, I've stopped trippin' but as an intelligent person I did not see how she was legitamizing the torture and murder of those dogs. And I'm sure she knows just like we all do that he is GUILTY, GUILTY, GUILTY. So there should be no discussion of the other people out there torturing animals? And how about the people who let their neglected kids "play" with them until their legs are broken? Oh, hey Britney...oh, no why? why did you even think that? wasn't talkin' 'bout you! oh hell no gurl!!!! hey, bartender...get her another Redbull and vodka.....[somebody go to her house call the police...!!] (somebody save the children and the pets, puhleeeeeeeeze!!!!!!!!)

The entire "it's cultural' arguement is also used for clitondectomies in other countries. You know when a women's clit is cut off so she won't ever be able to enjoy sex? That is also against the law here. Would we ever excuse someone who did it because it was their culture? No. That is a ridiculous argeument.

So is Whoopi also condoning and cheer leading Kenyan and Somalian genital mutilation? Really? She really said all that too? Wow? That's news. So Whoopi Goldberg has justified and single handedly initiated and sanctioned all the evil ever done by all humanity. Gee, Whoopi. I was stalking George Bush...silly me. Can people hate Michael Vick and just keep it there! Whoopi Goldberg doesn't torture dogs or kill them. And as a credit to her "race" Whoopi Goldberg does not cut off Kenyan and Somalian young girls' private parts and permanently ruin their lives for her fun or enjoyment or for "sport" or simply to degrade them. Kenyan/Somalian men do that with efficiency.

Kenyan/Somalian men do that with efficiency. I never said she advocated either of those things. I didn't bring her race into my arguement. I wrote an example of what I believe is an example of a similar cultural act, that is illegal and that I believe to be immoral and repulsive. The fact that it is someone's culture doesn't make it right. Did she do any of those acts? No. Do I believe she ever would? No. But I also believe that by 'excusing' it as a cultural phenomena like several other people have that she is tactically saying it is okay. That's not right. Argue against what I write not against the context you put it in, but you know, my actual words.
