OT, but: Newport News *is* the hood...at least 70% of it is. The nice pockets are very nice, but they are cheek-by-jowl with some of the roughest ghetto 'hoods I've ever been in.

By the by, Vick and his relatives (siblings and cousins) are well known around here for being the scummiest of scummy hood rats. It's a small town, and word gets around. I've heard stories about the Vick family/associates ALLEGED involvement in every type of ghetto vice, from drug dealing to gun selling to statutory rape...his brother threw away a stellar future in the NFL over dumb street crime shenanigans.

NONE of which excuses what he did or makes it ok. Just goes to show that millions of dollars and a promising career weren't enough to make Vick grow up and behave like a decent human being.

I've heard everything you've heard, turangaleela. Vick was doing this way before he got his contract and endorsements. I'm really interested to find out where he got the money to participate in these high-dollar dog fights way back then. My guess is college recruiter money - which would have huge repercussions.

turangaleela-Maybe I visited the nice part. I visited an Animal Reservation center with my daughter's class once. A few small trips passing through to VA Beach after that. That's definitely not a enough time to see all of Newport News. But out here in Richmond they do have some really bad areas. I really don't know VA all that well I am definitely a NYC chica.

Maybe it was drug money too. I remember reading and hearing on the news about his brother, he also had a very promising career. It's a shame they both screwed up so badly .

On Whoppi-I notice much hadn't been made of Whoppi's statement re:Vick. I remember hearing about Jamie's statement on MSNBC,CNN ,the radio etc.
