Nope, not a nice man by any stretch of the imagination, but talented as hell. RIP, Godfather of Soul.

I guess she technically wasn't his widow since she was married to another person when she married him and apparently never married him again.

Aaargh. I was in the airport yesterday and heard someone on their cell phone: "Who's James Brown?" Seriously? That's it, put a fork in this world, we're done. RIP James. I knew he was a bit of a jerk but then again so are so many people and I know I'm not perfect. The wife that he beat up, didn't she go back to him again?

Two of his wives had him arrested for domestic abuse - well, one wife and one partner, as the last one, Tomi Rae Hynie, wasn't legally married to him [which is why she's locked out]. The third wife, Adrienne Rodriguez, also had him arrested like, 3 or 4 times. But, yeah, they both went back to him afterwards. He was married to Rodriguez until her death.

Adrienne died from liposuction gone wrong IIRC. I hope that quack lost his license but I know how rarely that happens.
I saw JB at the Apollo ages ago when he was in his prime, he worked it out. His music is timeless. If you want to get a party started or revive a dying one, JB is your man. RIP GoS.

On the news this morning, they said there will be a viewing, open to the public, of JB's body at the Apollo Theater in NYC, from 1 PM till I think 8 PM.

Variety.com is reporting that Spike Lee has signed on to direct a feature on the life of James Brown for Paramount and Imagine Entertainment. Brian Grazer is producing, and the pic could be in production by late next year, though 2008 is more likely.

They're still making him go on tour when he's dead? Sheesh.
And yes, everytime I think of James Brown I think of the Smoking Gun cartoon/puppet show that aired on Court TV a year or so ago, lampooning some of his crazier arrests.
Is it James that had the soul food restaurant where it was found out that the bathroom stalls contained cameras?

Am I the only one who finds public viewings (i mean, REALLY public, in a theatre) totally creepy?
