It is different. Instead of faking the funk she's being real. She hates her ex. I can't get all clutch pearls about that. Also, about her using Ellen I would say maybe, but Ellen hasn't treated all her girlfriends so hot. I seem to remember her kicking out one girlfriend to move Portia in. I would see your point more if she did not have a son with him. Once someone has kids, they need to grow the hell up and keep the trash talking to themselves.

Why exactly does she hate him so much?
She's the one who cheated, and he seems like an okay guy (i.e taking care of the kid, attending his soccer games, holding down a respectable job, etc.) I don't understand what the problem is. I suppose that's why I found the comments strange. If he actually was a jerk to her, then the comments would make sense to me, but he seems ok on paper, I think.

This People article describes some of the issues she had with him. I have to admit it was refreshing (though foolish) to admit she had no interest in watching a pack of 7-year-olds play soccer poorly. I've been to many peewee soccer matches and judging by the number of parents I see on their Blackberries or chatting on their cell phones rather than watch the game, it appears most parents agree with her.

If all that was true, he wouldn't have gotten full custody. And re: the soccer game, yes it's boring but when it's your kid playing you suck it up and go.

Oh. Well, I guess I'm more inclined to believe him since she once said she came from Planet Celestica (or whatever it was). Well, that and the judge gave him full custody. It didn't seem like she had a problem with watching soccer games in general, but with her former husband playing soccer in his white shorts. I guess the husband did say she was delusional and insane which might be unkind, but since she said she came from another planet it's not exactly slander. Since she seemingly wanted people to think she was insane in the first place, his comments seem alright to me.

I laughed when I read the quotes online. Although not politically correct to say I am sure a lot of divorced people feel that way about their exes.

From the People article:
So, basically he's a normal guy. Good fathers aren't allowed to have a poker night? Good fathers are never supposed to require the services of a babysitter now and then? Obviously her ex had better evidence to back up his claim that Celestia is too mentally unstable to have custody than she had to back up her claim that playing ping pong made him a bad parent.
BTW, I recently glanced through an old Elle Magazine that had an interview with Ellen, and she was talking about why she didn't play Lisa Kudrow's part in The Opposite of Sex. She said five times in a row, literally, "because Anne didn't want me to". Then she talked about what a bummer that was. It was a little annoying; Ellen should really take responsibility for her decisions and not blame them on Anne. But it seems they both have little grievances like that against each other, and both claim the other one was really controlling.

She didn't have to speak about her ex on Letterman at all. I don't care whether or not she hates him, but she's bagging him in a very public forum and it's not impossible that her son will see it or hear about it, so I feel bad for him.
