Oh, it's so anti-climactic to find out who "Marva" is. Some part of me was hoping she'd just made Marva up completely to fuck with the audience. I'd actually have to tip my hat if that were the case.

I knew she couldn't last that long without working. Good luck to her Broadway appearance because I think she's gonna need it. You can't do multiple takes on stage and there is no editing to help one out if they suck majorly. But hey, she is Julia Roberts and the audience could get star struck and thus be forgiving...or not.
Oh and one more thing, when they announced that she was pregnant with twins, was I the only one who thought that it was kinda odd that they kept mentioning that there were twins in her family (the grandma part of the family tree?)? It was like they didn't want people to suspect that "perfect" Julia Roberts might have used IVF or needed other scientific help to conceive? Usually, Julia's camp aren't ones to reveal more details and multiple births are more likely with scientifically aided fertilization.

She still could have conceived with help-twins run on BOTH sides of my family, and my dad's sister had twins while taking fertility pills. So there you go.

MT, I agree. It's so odd that celebs will say that they're checking into rehab for addiction to (fill-in-the-blank), which is pretty personal, but admit that they're getting help in getting pregnant? Oh, that crosses the line.
The thing that was weird is that Julia said that when her mom told her, "Don't you know that twins run in the family?" Julia was surprised. I mean, wouldn't that be something that you'd have known already? I know that twins don't run in my family, and that my strawberry-blondeness comes from my mom's side and my height comes from my dad's side. It just seems weird to me that you wouldn't know about something in your heritage as specific as multiple births.

If she did need reproductive help, I don't blame her for covering it up. First, it's none of our business. Second, there's still an unfortunate stigma attached to reproductive problems. Also, there's a lot of controversial things that can arise from getting reproductive help. You can end up having to selectively abort fetuses if you end up carrying too many, or freezing extra embryos. Dealing with that kind of controversy could be problematic for Julia's career.
Or, maybe she did have twins the normal way. The likelihood of having twins goes up significantly when a woman has her first child later.

Not to sound sexist or anything, but maybe she's taking to the stage because she's not "ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille." Many actresses have gone from films to the stage when their looks start fading.

I must admit, I'm a little surprised she's doing theater. Theater is incredibly time consuming and grueling physically. Doesn't seem like the best idea when you've got two tiny children.
But, I don't think her looks are fading. She's only 37. Hmm. I just checked that on IMDb. I'm a little surprised. I actually thought she was 40. She doesn't look 40 or even 37, imho.

I never believe anyone who "announces" they are taking a break. If they were serious they wouldn't make an announcement, they'd just leave -- no comments, no interviews, no fanfare, no drama, just gone. Warren Beatty's been gone for years. He didn't annouce it. Kathryn Hepburn, gone. Jodie Foster took a break, didn't make a big deal out of it. No, Julia's not going anywhere. She needs the attention. Sure she can disappear for awhile, but when that ego needs to be fed she's right up in everyone's face. She's schizo. Its one extreme to the other.
I agree she quite pretty on the surface. But she not really aging well and its not so much on her face as it is in it. Her skin is beautiful. Her smile just as wide as the day she appeared on screen, but more than frequently the smile doesn't t quite reach her eyes. Her eyes are cold and almost angry. That's a big part of beauty to me -- seeing in a person's face that they are beautiful inside and out. There are a lot of people attractive on the outside, but something about them is a complete turn off. I think as the years go by its getting harder for her to hide her inner b***. It seeping out and becoming part of her being which is what happens as we get older our characteristics become more pronouced and that's scary in her case.
As for the theatre, good for her for trying something new. I should wish her the best of luck, but I won't.
You guys should go and read the posts about her at bitterwaitress.com.

I think stars sometimes announce their time off to let everybody know they are willingly taking a vacation, lest anyone think they aren't working because they aren't getting good offers.
The thing is, they make these big announcements that they are taking time off when they only mean 6 months or a year. That might seem like a long time to them, but it's not long enough for us to even notice that they're gone. It takes me about 2-3 years to notice if somebody really hasn't had a movie out in a while. Like I just realized I haven't seen Edward Norton around in a long time, and his last movie was in 2002. He didn't make any announcements about it though.
