Oh man, I can't believe y'all started a thread on fucking Delilah! This is great. And I'm so glad there are others here who used to listen to this broad in college. What were we thinking? Now, anytime I go somewhere with my mom or step dad, I am still subjected to Delilah in the car.
As far as the song choices, I know "Angel" was mentioned, but as far as I'm concerned, the "go to" artist for Delilah is Bette Midler. Sometimes, you just know she's going to play "Wind Beneath My Wings". Or "From A Distance". Or "In This Life I Was Loved By You". She's so damn predictable. And really, can you get more cliche than "Wind Beneath My Wings"? That's probably like the first song most people would think of when thinking of cheesy AC songs. And Delilah's also a big fan of that awful, awful, awful "Butterfly Kisses".
And she is so crazy when she "scolds" the callers. I think the last time I listened to her (in the car with the step dad), a teenage boy called in with a dedication to his father. The boy basically said that he had been an obnoxious brat and had given his father a hard time throughout his younger years, but now he realizes how wrong he was and what a great father he had. So Delilah's all, "You were a bad kid?...What did you do?...You weren't very nice, were you?...I bet you had a smart mouth, didn't you?...And you're not gonna be like that anymore, are you?...You've learned your lesson, haven't you?..." etc. She was just really annoying and condescending. She always gets like that when a caller admits they've done something "wrong" in the past like infidelity or drug abuse or something. It's like damn, yeah they realize they've done wrong, why rub it in?
This is making me want to listen to Delilah now just to come back here and make fun of her. She's ridiculous.

OK, I have been lurking here since the board started, and at FT before that, but have never been actually compelled to post anything, and wouldn't you know, I would register because of freaking Delilah. Talking about the songs she always plays, it seems to me that EVERY time I listen to her show, I always hear either "I Just Called to Say I Love You" or "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." Such cheesy drek.

This is so fascinating. I think I used to hear her from time to time back in the late nineties, but it might have been someone else. Anyway, I am really enjoying this thread.

And during Christmas, EVERY NIGHT, she will play that horrible Christmas Shoes song. The one about the little boy who has to get his mom a pair of shoes on Christmas Eve because she is dying and he does not have enough money and it is horribly manipulative and trite and I think it is sung by the Butterfly Kisses dude. There is nothing Chritmasy about that! Every night.

HA HA HA. I loved the Swan's recap, and also the reference above to her calling people out. WTF is she doing? And why do people feel compelled to confess things to this woman? I wish I had more self-control and wouldn't just bust out laughing, because I would totally call her with a fake dedication if I thought I could do it, but then I'd have to listen to her show all the time to try to hear my dedication, and just...no.

I turned it on Delilah Friday night on a Wendy's trip for the fam, and she was playing "The Story of My Life" by Neil Diamond. OK, ya'll, I admit, its cheesy, but I love that song and you hardly ever hear it on the radio. Do you think Delilah's been surfing the net and she came across us making fun of her small playlist? I mean, what the hell else is she going to do while the songs are playing?

I can't believe she actually played something so obscure.
One day my friend and I were listening, and we thought for SURE she was going to play "Angel," and she ended up playing "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago, so that was a pleasant surprise. I wish she'd play "Angel" by Aerosmith. That would make my whole year.

Can't remember if I posted this before, but about 20 years ago, back when Delilah was known as Delilah Renee, she had a local show called "Lights Out", on KLSY 92.5. She had a kind, friendly demeanor back then (I wonder what happened). I called her one night when I was packing to go see my father for the first time in 15 years (for my 25th birthday). DR and I ended up talking on the phone for about 20 minutes. She told me about how she was estranged from her father, how hurtful it was, and how much she missed him. I think she ended up playing "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics (shuh-up, she chose it).
Anyway, it's a nice memory I have, particularly since my dad is gone now, and I don't want to spoil it by tuning in to her show and hearing what a cheesy shrew she's become since truncating her air name.

SwanFlake, I love you for recapping this crap so we don't have to listen to it. She is so judgmental. She's always dishing out a scolding or pulling crap that the aforementioned "BLING!" b.s.
That said? I kinda like some of the stuff she plays. Yeah, it's cheesy and obvious, but most of it is bad 80s ballads, and I love me some 80s music.

[small voice]I actually bought one of her cd compilations because I couldn't find those cheesy songs anywhere else. (This is before I knew about file sharing.)[/small voice] Yes, if I'm in the mood for cheesy music now if I'm i-Podless, I listen to John Tesh instead because then I don't have to hear all the sad stories. (Wow, admitting I bought a Delilah cd and listening to John Tesh would be two things I never thought I would admit here. I wonder what's next. Maybe the time that I saw an Air Supply greatest hits cd in the used bin at a one of those High Fidelity like record store, and having the clerk laugh in my face.)
