Stephen Hunter from The Washington Post liked it. I think. He has an annoying habit of throwing in random comments like this: Oh what-the-fuck-EVER, Hunter!

Jessica really needs to take some acting classes. And she also needs some help in learning to sound like an adult in interviews.
It's painful to watch her trying to act. She's had enough time to get better but she hasn't.
I don't care how good her ass may be. I'm not going to spend ten bucks to see it in a movie.

Saw FF earlier today. I can't compare it to the comic book nor to any earlier TV shows because I'm not a fan. I went and dragged my hubby, mainly because of the smokin' hot Julian McMahon. Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis were bonuses. We also don't go to movies very often. The last one we paid full price for was Sideways.
All this being said, I liked it, it's mindless and fun, it had good funny parts, a little good drama. The only drawback for me was that it felt a little disjointed and I would have liked more explanation for some items. Maybe an extra 15 minutes would have been great for me. Alba didn't bug like I thought she would. May I also report that Julian is still smokin' hot.
So I have a question but I'll spoiler it: >>>>I know that the Four were all signed for sequels, why not Julian McMahon? Of course the movie allows for a sequel, and I thought they would bring a new bad guy in a la Spider-man, but it appears that JM could still play Doom in the next one.<<<<
ETA: Nevermind, I found it with a simple search. >>>>JM is signed on to do a sequel but isn't sure if Fox will want him. I guess they gotta sign him no matter what, to cover their a**.<<<<

I just came back from it and all in all, a big fat meh.
It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good. I think the problem was that it felt like there was no story. No buildup, no climax, no resolution, nothing. You would think that in the span of 2 hours something would happen, anything at all, but nope. It was just people who got hit by a space storm, and then they had some fun, and then they fought a bad guy for five minutes, and then it was over. Mediocre acting, no plot with any kind of substance, and some decent special effects. Julian Mcmahon was the best part of the movie, but it seemed like his scenes went by too quickly. There wasn't any real character development for anyone. I actually didn't hate it. It was an okay way to spent a Saturday evening and it went by quick. However, overall it was boring for a superhero flick.

I think the problem I have with it so far (without seeing it, natch) is that they felt they needed to change the story of a scientist and his three friends stealing a rocket and getting bathed in cosmic rays. What's wrong with that? Doom didn't have any part of it, according to the comic he was doing his own thing with making his armor and applying his scientific genius to magic somewhere in Tibet. What's wrong with that? I just don't get it.
Anyway, I'll see the movie. I'm a big FF fan....and I'm trying to score a 12" action figure of the Thing for my entertainment center. I think Chiklis is a good choice for Ben Grimm, I think he can do wonders with it.

Fantastic Four has broken the box-office 19 week slump. I was pondering this question: I went to see FF mostly for Julian McMahon, as a fan. Both Nip/Tuck and The Shield (starring Michael Chiklis) are on breaks until the new season. Many who know Ioan Gruffudd know him from Horatio Hornblower, which is an original A&E series, right? So, did TV audiences make the difference here? Add to it the comic book fans, diehard and dedicated.

I saw it. And thoroughly, shamelessly enjoyed it.
No plot. Who cares? No story. Who cares?
I laughed, I cried (okay, I didn't cry, but I did tear up quite a bit at poor ol' Ben Grimm).
The theatre I saw it at was sold out, full audience of all different types - families, geeks, nerds, frat boys, etc - and at the end they applauded.
Screw the critics. It was good, mindless fun.
