Mariah should really go up a size, or just do the thing where there is never a tag in anything so she thinks she is a size 4. There was a story that at one point some of her people would remove the size labels from her clothes (and replace them with a smaller size) just to please her. In fairness, Paula Abdul is a dancer. That's how she rose to fame with the Laker girls and being a choreographer. Janet Jackson is also a really great dancer. I saw Britney in concert a couple of years ago and she wasn't that much more animated, to be honest. A bit more but in between her dance moves she would just stand there like she was waiting for someone to wind her up again. I think Janet and Madonna can still click their heels with a little more gusto than this :-) Paula Abdul, Janet, Madonna, and Britney were always known for their dancing ability. We all know Britney has her issues, so I'm going to cut her some slack for not being able to dance as she once could. Janet and Madonna can still move. Madonna still tours, and Janet is preparing to resume the tour she had to postpone when she was pregnant. Madonna is pushing 60 and Janet is pushing 50. I'm happy to hear that Paula Abdul still can dance. I remember some time in the 90s or so, she had had a series of injuries that had slowed her down. Mariah was never really a dancer. Since she injured herself when she fell during a video shoot a few years ago, that'd be a perfect excuse for her to not try to dance anymore. So what you mean is someday soon we are going to see Mariah strapped upright to a dolly and wheeled around? Ginger -- Something like this already happened. I'm trying to pinpoint my fav moment. It's either the dude hoisting her up onto the dancers' backs or the guy who has to hand her the mic afterward The dancer having to hand her the mike and the look on Mariah's face had me

Evidently put forth more effort the next night.I sometimes wear shapewear to work and there are times that I can't even sit comfortably because I feel so squished. I can't imagine trying to dance in what looks like full body Spanx, much less control her breathing to sing. I wish she could hear what we've heard for years and accept that even if she doesn't look like a Victoria's Secret model she is still fabulously talented and extremely beautiful. I'd be happy to see her in a performance where she sings her face off while sitting on a stool wearing a muumuu.

I'm with you on that. She needs to chill out and own her shit. She has talent, and she doesn't need to be a size 0 to be attractive/appealing. Just BE, Mariah. We all like you already, and you can still do the Stairmaster in heels. Don't change too much, just...relax a little in your clothing.

Not everybody needs to do a dance. Celine and Adele don't. Au contraire! @ 0:13 never fails to crack me up.

Celine Dion has also been known to play air guitar with her own leg. Does that count as dancing?

Celine has that mix of super professional, but also a little goofy, and also well intentioned (as far as I know). I will allow playing her own leg as an air guitar to count as dancing. Plus, I think if she wanted to, she could fling herself around the stage, but she chooses not to. Mariah, for all her pluses would need others to fling her about.

She has bipolar II disorder. She was diagnosed in 2001. I don't mean this in a nasty way, but this explains a lot.

I'm sorry she felt that she had to hide it, but 2001 was a different time, so I understand.
I will ALWAYS love her Cribs episode, though. An iconic television moment.

She has bipolar II disorder. She was diagnosed in 2001. I don't mean this in a nasty way, but this explains a lot. That explains the breakdown. I don't remember whether they tried to explain it away in the press as "extreme exhaustion", but the details that were leaked back then (her rambling messages left on her site to her fans, her breaking glasses and her getting cut, which some thought was a suicide attempt) indicated that whatever that was much more serious. I never bought that the breakdown was just from extreme stress and lack of sleep either (although she was experiencing a number of challenges in her personal and professional life then).

I'm glad she's getting help for it now, and it's a shame that she felt she couldn't before out of fear of being exposed. This country has a long way to go in regards to how mental illnesses are treated.
