Okay. I know a lot of us here have already made a pact not to go anywhere near a theatre showing this film when it gets released due to the Year of The TomKat and Scientology.
But lets face it. Many people will see it.
I must say I was very surprised to hear Phillip Seymour Hoffman was in it. Yeah, he signed up for it before being nominated for the Oscar. But really I don't recall ever having seen him in a mainstream summer blockbuster action flick. I'm really curious as to see how he does in a "blowing stuff up and car chases" summer blockbuster movie.
Well I started the thread. You can gang together and beat me up now. I hate myself already.

PSH looks like he's having a lot of fun in the trailer and I'm sure he will be one of those easy to cheer for villians who immeasurably improve the quality of any summer action flick. I'm surprised they didn't get someone British for the role.
I don't know if I'll see this or not. I'm curious to see what (if any) impact the crazy will have on Tom's acting and the movie in general. I don't like to theater hop but I really don't want to line Tom's pockets, either.

I definately want to see this movie. I like Tom Cruise. I didn't enjoy the other Mission Impossible movies but the previews for this movie looks really good.

This movie is tough because I hate Tom Cruise but I like Keri Russell, Philip Seymour Hoffman and JJ Abrams. So I'll probably rent it.
I've never see MI: 2 though and wonder if there is anything that happened in that one that would cause me to be confused by this. I suspect the answer is No.

The second Mission: Impossible hardly seemed connected to the first (and was a total Notorious ripoff, though I didn't realize it at the time) so I doubt they will bother too much with continuity for the third one.

Screw you, Cruise, you're not getting my money!
I will wait until it comes out on satellite [/small voice].

Until Charlie's Angels II, I think MI2 held the record for most absurd action sequences. I wonder if MI3 will reclaim the crown?

I want to avoid this because of Cruise, but...JJ Abrams! Philip Seymour Hoffman! I gotta see it. But I'll at least feel really dirty about it.

He was actually in Twister, which was the only thing I knew him for until I finally saw Boogie Nights last summer. Yes I am that far behind the curve. But that role was more of a wacky secondary character type thing. I think he'll probably be awesome in his roll, and the fact that he and Lawrence Fishburne are in it make it very hard to resist. But resist I must. And I know the likelihood is slim, but I really hope it tanks. Like, Basic Instinct 2 tanks. Please movie gods, let this tank!

He will be the Rickman to Cruise's crazy ass Costner. But even PSH will not draw me into the theater to see this one. Dougray Scott lured me into M:I 2, and I am still pissed. Dumbest fucking movie...
