I love the memories that came with this movie much more than the movie itself. I liked it but plot? What plot? Dialogue? Cheesier than Velveeta. But the sets, the clothes, the special effects...I love it. I liked the movie loads better after they hit the iceberg.
This movie just warms my heart.

I saw it twice in the theater. I loved it. I was nineteen at the time. *shrinks away in shame*
I thought it was really cool that Rose went on and lived her life, had children of her own, etc. after the ship sank. To me it wasn't that she was meant to die on the ship, it was that she was meant to have a full life before returning to Jack and everyone else in death.

The plot was cheesy, and I think it would have worked better if Cal was perhaps a much older, somewhat distant and patronizing man rather than the brutally hot and assholish Billy Zane (god, I love Billy!).
But oh, the costumes-the COSTUMES!!! My all time FAVORITE costume movie.

This movie will always my in my top three just because of the way it made me feel when it came out (I was 17 - target audience). Just love it and I'm always a sobbing mess by the time the last scene comes around and Rose walks up the staircase to meet Jack.

I love this movie. I saw it in the theater three times (I was 15) and sobbed like a baby each and every time. But I couldn't get past DiCaprio being Luke from Growing Pains so I never swooned over him like most of the girls my age. I too more appreciated Billy Zane in the hotness category. I was also in love with Kate's hair, those gorgeous red curls. Then there were the costumes.

I saw this movie in college with my roommate who cries at everything (she even cried during Independence Day), so she came well-stocked with tissues, since she knew this movie would turn her into a blubbering mess. My favorite thing about this movie was watching it in the theater with her behind a couple of big beefy frat boys who were trying to quietly and discreetly man-cry at the part where Leo dies, so my roommate leaned forward and handed them a huge wad of tissues from her stash. They were completely embarassed that she had caught them crying at first, but then they thanked her and used her tissues to dab their manly tears away. It was awesome.

I know what you mean, OnyxRose, about the memories. For me, Titanic always reminds me of the guy I went with to see it in the theater. It was maybe my third date, ever, so Titanic will always make me think of that. What's sad is that I haven't seen it in years, yet I remember it clearly. Also, whenever I happen to hear the Celine Dion song (which I used to LOVE) it makes me want to see the movie. Crap, now I want to see the stupid movie

A friend referred to the early scenes between Kate and Leo as being worse than the acting scenes they would perform on the early version of "Star Search." I agree. I cringe in pain for both of them when she starts rifling thru his sketch book. And the love scene in the car? Painfully funny.
Mr. Wol does a humorous impersonation of old Rose's inner monologue about telling the story to Bill Paxton: "No, I've never told this story to anyone...not my children...or my dear granddaughter who's taking care of me...but I'll tell Bill Paxton...he has an earring...maybe he's a pirate..."
For the 45 minutes where that boat starts to go down, I love this movie. Everything else is pretty wretched, except for the production design and costumes, as others have noted.

I forgot to mention I hate the stupid Bill Paxton parts. I don't care about that! I want to see pretty people in pretty costumes living a high class pretty life amid pretty scenery! But then I enjoy stories about old-fashioned rich people.

Sure Billy Zane was doing his "best" twirling mustache villain acting, but like someone said upthread, he was rich and much hotter than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm terrible at remembering exact quotes, and I can't even remember the film critic who said it, I think it might have been Rex Reed or someone like that, but I thought he was dead on with the quote about Leo and Kate being like a great dane mounting a poodle or other small dog. Leo just looked too young to me to take Jack and the whole movie seriously. I enjoyed the movie though for how great it looked though.
