Heh. It took me two viewings to get that Rose died in the end. I thought she was dreaming the first time around. When I saw it the second time [on my, ahem, bootleg copy - you're not alone, Shanmac], I was like, "Oh. Oh."
The saddest parts for me were the scenes in which the Strausses went to bed together and the mother tells her kids a story, all while the boat is sinking.

I've said it before, but the only way my friends could get me into the theater was by promising me that Leo died. I was surprised that I ended up enjoying it as much as I did. It isn't the greatest movie ever, but it's not a bad way to spend a rainy/cold afternoon.

I read that Christian Bale tried out for the part of Jack but that Cameron didn't want two Brits playing both American leads. Dammit, he would have been smokin' as Jack. DiCaprio was just too young-he's a good actor, but the part was rather bland, and you needed someone with a slight, I don't know, "naughtiness?" I knew about some of the actresses who were almost Rose, but I never knew that about Christian Bale almost being Jack. Now that definitely would have been the best movie of all time right there. Bale wouldn't have looked like he was just a boy. Plus, it would have been interesting to see Bale be paired up with someone who didn't come across as being too immature or young for him because I agreed with the atpeacewithme and others in the Christian Bale thread who think that Bale's a great actor, but unfortunately just hasn't been able to click chemistry wise with many of his female co-stars.

I think I was 12 when this movie came out, so I was just starting to come out as the major tomboy that I am today. So, I never cried during the movie (and I only saw it ONCE, thank you very much), but I did get a major migraine. And the song made me want to shove icepicks into my ears. Heh, I'm no tomboy and I didn't cry either, I rolled my eyes when he died oh-so-tragically. Ok, I was 18 when I watched it and couldn't (still can't) stand Leo. A heartthrob? Him? No thanks. And to be fair, by the time the damned ship sank I had to pee so I couldn't wait until Leo finally died. Seeing all that water didn't help either. So when his deathscene finally came, I was left disappointed as well. Yeesh, what an underwhelming scene that was, at least the CGI bloke got an interesting fall. ;D The only things I was impressed with was the CGI, Kate's wardrobe and the production design.

Where to start with this one? Me and my friends couldn't watch the movie in theatres so we patiently waited until it was released in DVD. Up until that time, we kept hearing how beautiful, heartbreaking, touching it was building up the anticipation and setting us up for the most wonderful, romantic movie of all time. We had heard that a girl in Italy had set a new record by watching it 91 times in theatres so you can easily imagine how excited we were to finally see it. So we did, one fine afternoon at one of my friend's house and it was a complete disaster. After 30 minutes in, we started laughing at the cheesines, the dialogues, the sex scene with that boy and a girl who looked old enough to be his mother, or at least much older than him. By the time the movie ended, we had started playing with cards or preparing dinner and only two (out of 8 girls) were paying attention to it. I haven't seen it ever since and I have no intention to do it, unless I can get my friends together and relive that afternoon. The memories are awsome, but the movie? Not so much.

It can be interpreted either way. Either Rose dies and joins Jack et al. in Titanic heaven or she's just dreaming about him, having finally found closure by dropping the necklace in the ocean. James Cameron's commentary track on the DVD says pretty much the same thing.

As I've said, I loved this movie, but I didn't cry at all. But then I'm not a movie crier (or I wasn't then... I've softened a bit in my old age, damn it). I did love Leo, though (again, 13), and I didn't think he looked young. I am so glad it's Christian Bale-free, because I hate him. He's so creepy looking.
I only saw it twice in theatres. I made my parents buy the video as soon as it came out, but I never actually watched it -- I was over it by then.

I only saw it twice in theatres. I made my parents buy the video as soon as it came out, but I never actually watched it -- I was over it by then. I saved up my money and bought the video the day it came out. I took it home, watched the first tape and could never bring myself to watch the second. Once the ship hits the iceberg it was just too depressing. Before the movie came out I want somewhat of a Titanic "buff". I did school reports on it, read every book I could find. It was just a disaster I just felt so terrible about - so when the boat is sinking, running through my head are all the stories I had read about whole families lost, honeymoon couples separated, the Strausses, etc. It doesn't help that I'm one of the few who was in love with Leo in that movie and totally bought the love story. Heh - while typing this, I've just realized that my parents gave me the three disc set (upon my request) for Christmas last year and I still haven't watched the thing.

I hate most romantic movies, and Leo DiCaprio is just silly as a leading man. Honestly, I just wanted Winslet to snap him in half over her knee.
But once that ship starts sinking, it's an awesome movie.

Gosh, some of you guys sound like my girlfriends who absolutely adored this movie. My really good friend in school must have watched this movie over 10 times and she would even listen to the soundtrack constantly. I avoided this movie like the plague because well, I kinda know what happens at the end and I could care less about the love story. By the time, I got to finally watching this on video (bootleg.. natch), I knew about certain scenes, so I kind of knew what was coming. I remember there where two video tapes and I didn't watch the second tape which contained the second part of the movie, until days later. I usually watch movie in their entirety so yeah, you could say I was not impressed. I thought Kate did a really good job in this movie, but I didn't think Leo's preformance was that great. Oh yeah, Billy Zane was Hot!!!IMO I think he was the only good part of this movie.
