I was 17 and worked at an 18 screen movie theater which was playing Titanic on NINE of the screens. I have never sat through it.. I have like PTSD whenever the beginning notes of "My Heart Will Go On" start anywhere... I literraly have to leave the room, change the radio station etc. It's been over 20 years and I still get cold sweats about that movie and how much money was in my box office drawer and at given time. I love this post. There is a heist movie in there somewhere!

Bill Hader has a great story about getting fired from his job at a movie theater for stepping in front of the screen and spoiling the entire plot of the movie for a group of annoying sorority girls. ("It's going to look like Leo's sleeping but he's really dead!")

I love this post. There is a heist movie in there somewhere! Oh there absolutely is! My theater was huge, and the box office was in the middle of the mall about 100 yards from the concession stand. There were 3 separate "pods" with 2 cashiers to a pod. Now there was a plexiglass screen all the way around, and a door that locked but the top was not enclosed. On weekend nights my drop was easily around 20k. There was a laser tag place next door and a friend from high school worked there after quitting the theater. His favorite thing to do was to take the laser guns and go up to the second floor of the mall and point the laser down at us like we were in a bad Bruce Willis movie. Terrifying.

Who else is going to the re-release over Valentines weekend? I’m looking forward to it, it’s nice to see something old and familiar on a big screen.
It’s one of those movies I can’t help but stop and watch, even the annoying parts. And while I have mixed feelings about Kate Winslet’s overall performance, I do love bright-eyed young Leo’s performance, more now than I did when it first came out.

I still haven't had enough therapy (see above) so I'm a hard pass

I've been more fascinated about documentaries about the Titanic than the movie. I didn't care about Jack's death, but the scene that always gets me is the older couple in their cabin. Even though it's filling up with water, they clasp hands because at least they will die together. I could see Jack and Rose's "romance" fizzing out in a year (especially when Rose turns 25!).

My Valentine's Day tradition is watching The Age of Innocence (Martin Scorsese + costume and production design porn + peak hotness Daniel Day-Lewis + peak hotness Michelle Pfeiffer = perfect heartbreak material while single). I'm not invested in Jack/Rose* and hate this won Best Picture over L.A. Confidential.
*Full disclosure, I read a lot of Beatles fan-fic (1/3 garbage, 1/3 horny, 1/3 good) and there was one where the Beatles time-traveled to meet Rose on the Titanic. The boat did have port of registry in Liverpool, so it's not too random.
