Curly hair has been out of fashion and seen as a relic of the 90s. It's coming back in Hollywood as a once-in-a-while sort of thing - not really curly hair, but hair that has been fully straightened and then curled back up again. Nicole's curly hair from last night is a lot different from her naturally curly hair.

Nicole looking gorgeous and curly-haired at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opening gala. And according to Hello Magazine she was supported by her daughter Bella Cruise because Bella "liked" Nicole's post on attending the gala, hilarious. She does look so great and I love the natural, curly hair. Speaking as a photographer, though, that stiff arm is driving me crazy. There’s a saying; if it bends, bend it! 😉

I love the “Go to Bed with Me” series on YouTube put out by Harper’s BAZAAR where celebrities demonstrate their nighttime (and sometimes daytime) skincare routine. Some you can tell are clearly bullshit and it’s not what they actually do, some are clearly sponsored by the products they claim to use, some are ridiculously over-complicated, and a laughable number of people still have eye makeup on, even after they “wash” their face. They are often filmed in hotel rooms, but on rare occasion, you get a glimpse at a celeb’s actual bathroom. Nicole’s checks a couple of those boxes (sponsored, eye makeup), but it was remarkable in that it’s in her own bathroom, which looks like it was decorated by Stevie Nicks, and she had her actual hair/curls on full display. (Side note: Hannah Waddingham’s is a delight. Obviously not sponsored, you believe this is what she actually does, and she actually washes her makeup off).

Jesus Christ, Nicole looks basically the same as she did 20 years ago when they made Eyes Wide Shut. What is this sorcery?

I am so annoyed by Olivia Wilde's face oil ad that is perpetually in my instagram feed. She is clearly not rubbing ANYTHING onto her face and it's completely fake. People wanted to burn Millie Bobby Brown at the stake for doing the same thing not long ago, but now it's an acceptable bullshit influencer thing to do. I expect more from celebrities who want me to respect them professionally. If the successful directing career is not enough for Olivia and she still feels compelled to side-hustle an overpriced face oil, at least she should be willing to actually let the miracle product touch her precious face.

I will never be a fan of the middle part on...well, on anyone, really, but the curls soften it here and make it look much less ageing. And I'm delighted to see Nicole wearing her hair curly and strawberry again. (I straightened mine for years but revived my curls a couple years back. My hair's much happier now.) I hope it really is her own.

Speaking as a photographer, though, that stiff arm is driving me crazy. Not a photographer, but yeah, that looks so awkward. Nicole looks great in the pic, though. I love the dress.

I too have curly hair (or really wavy, I'm a 2B/2C girl), and I have noticed a slight uptick in curly hair on the red carpet. Zendaya sometimes rocks her waves. Nathalie Emmanuel has super curly hair. And Lupita Nyong'o wears her hair in its gorgeous natural state most of the time. I actually think these do look like Nicole's natural curls, she probably has a lot of damage from bleaching and heat styling, so they're not going to be the tight corkscrews she used to have.
Don't get me wrong, the mermaid waves blowout is still going strong and has been since the heyday of Lilo and Paris Hilton in the early 00s, but with the rise of Gen Z I think we're going to see a lot more diversity of hairstyles. So take that, Ms. I-have-zero-sex-appeal-with-curly-hair Gwyneth Paltrow.

I also was wondering if it was a wig. I have curly hair and I have a hard time getting it to grow to the length that Nicole has it because it starts looking damaged once it's very far past my shoulders, and I don't color mine. In any case, I think she looks amazing with her natural hair texture back. I think I've said this a million times, but I always feel a little betrayed by curly-haired celebrities who keep their hair straightened. I feel like they are saying curly hair is inferior. (Looking at you, Keri Russell.) Same, I have always wanted long hair, but I have somewhat fine, but very curly hair and it won't grow consistently past my shoulders. A piece here and a piece there will grow longer, but then it just looks ridiculous and uneven. So shoulder length it is. I remember seeing Nicole Kidman on a talk show where she talked about how her curls will never be the same after all the years of straightening and chemicals. She cautioned against messing with your natural curls because you won't get them back the same.
