I think curly hair is beautiful, but honestly a lot of people don't realize how much work it is. Sure, when it is cared for properly it can look AMAZING. This usually involves: washing it in a very particular way, drying it in a very particular way, styling it in a multi processed way... Then- it can look great. I have curly hair; for me to maintain it takes hours- and I mean like 8 hours- of work. And at that it will look lovely for maybe 1 day, maybe 2 if I am very lucky. Honestly straightening it IS easier. Unless you are blessed with the kind of curly hair that just comes out looking lovely after a tousle and spritz (I have yet to meet a person like that)- curly hair that is not highly styled can look very unruly. And not in the sexy messy way, in the: gurl brush your hair there are rats living in it way. Yup, that’s me. I looked into the curly girl method and it way too much work so I didn’t even try. If I want my hair to be naturally curly for the day, I have to immediately put product in it and then leave it alone otherwise it’ll frizz. I end up looking like Weird Al for a good portion of the day. If it’s especially humid out, my hair gets bigger and bigger and could potentially knock over furniture. Blowing it out and running the straightening iron through it *is* so much easier.

I have naturally curly hair and I just wash and let it dry and it looks great. Way more time-intensive to straighten it for me. I'm the same. Wash and air dry. I'm not saying my hair looks fahbulous! TM but it looks like ordinary curly hair not a rat's nest. Maybe it's down to the individual's hair texture rather than curly vs. not curly. On the show, her hair has to be like this because that's "done". It nothing at all to do with your point, Ginger, but are her boobs actually wonky or is it because of how she's standing? Plus, that clip pressing into her boob can't be comfortable at all. I agree though. It a shame natural curls aren't valued as much as straight sleek hair. Both can look great.

I'm not a morning person so I always shower at night. In the morning, I'll re-wet it, put a little product in, and that's it. Funny story: I own a hair dryer but I use it at most four times a year. Around 7-8 years ago, the retractable cord feature on it broke and the cord will only pull out about 12 inches from the body of the dryer. That means when I dry my hair, I have to sit where it's plugged in since I have practically no slack. I'm sure it's a funny sight seeing me sitting on the floor next the plug drying my hair with a dryer that has world's shortest cord. But I use it so seldomly I have never felt like getting another one when this one works fine.

I do get it straightened when I get it cut, and it really does look nice and sleek--I just have no patience to do that on any sort of regular basis on my own. Topic: I'm really interested to see the Lucille Ball movie Nicole's got in the queue. There was a lot of "why her?" when she got cast, but I never underestimate her.

Wash and air dry. I'm not saying my hair looks fahbulous! TM but it looks like ordinary curly hair not a rat's nest. Maybe it's down to the individual's hair texture rather than curly vs. not curly. I think you're right: texture and climate. Seeing all you lovelies who are blessed with wash and go curls I think a big part of my issue is climate. As I said upthread- no one I know can do a wash and go curl. I live in a super dry area so maybe that's why. When I visited Hawaii for the 1st time my hair was a bounty of curls! (it was the first time I really knew how curly my hair could actually be) Does Nicole live in Australia? Or is it Texas? Either way if it's a dry climate maybe she is also more used to straightening it because of that. I agree with everyone here that curls are beautiful. They certainly aren't the standard in Hollywood, but I'm not sure if that's because people don't love them?

I think Nicole lives in Nashville most of the time.
Another curly girl here! And a wash, a little product, and air dry advocate. When I get my hair cut, my stylist cuts it dry and then washes it when the cut is done. Since the humidity has dropped with the fall-like weather, my hair has gained inches in length overnight!

My reddish blonde curls are 3A-B: similar to Nicole’s. I haven’t done the years of processing that she has, and my hair is very healthy.I chalk it up to good living, good loving, lots of water, and argan oil. Argan oil is a gift from the goddesses.
Something a casting director told me years ago, that may explain why so many of us curly girls straighten our hair: “curly = crazy”. That one is always fine to deal with.

And that's why I don't keep my hair long - I never wore it down for work because it felt unprofessional and 'wild'. Short and curly is more polished.

I always thought that Melina Kanakaredes from the TV show, Providence had the most beautiful curls. I will be crushed if I now learn that they first straightened her hair and recurred it. So shhhhh. Although apparently they did that with Julia Louis Dreyfus in later Seinfeld seasons.
