I haven't seen it, but I have a girlfriend who hated it because she thought this: She thought that Carrie was perfectly in her right to plan the big wedding she wanted. She didn't think Carrie was being a Bridezilla at all and she thought it was terrible that Carrie ended up getting married at a Justice of the Peace's office without wearing her dream dress. Also, she felt that Miranda's storyline's message was this: if you don't have enough sex with your husband, he will cheat on you.
Did anyone else feel that way?

Granted, I'm not married, but a six month dry spell in a marriage does seem like a heck of a long time barring physical or mental health issues, like "she's just not that into you". I think it was more that they got overwhelmed and pushed their sex life to the back burner, which doesn't justify cheating as they should have talked about it earlier, but I can see why it happened. It was more a "lack of communication hurts a marriage" message than just a "put out twice out a week so he won't cheat" message.

With regard to Miranda, I think your friend raises a valid point. They made the infidelity very simplistic. But we don't know who, how, why. It would have made the movie better to flesh out the Miranda/Steve story a bit more. What about Steve's bar? Was is successful or not? How hard was he working? Was the bar a flop and he was not helping Miranda out around the house? Or was it a some kind of moderate success that required him to work all kinds of hours, but not really make a ton of money? I don't know. Not that I think this excuses the infidelity at all. In fact, one of the things I really liked about Samantha's break-up with Smith was that she broke up with him rather than cheating on him.I really enjoyed the series when it was on TV and I liked the movie. But for some reason, I am willing it to give it a pass as pure entertainment, despite the fact that pretty much all the criticism I have read is pretty spot on.

If the Miranda story had been fleshed out (and I haven't seen it yet), IMO that would have taken the focus off Carrie and I don't think SJP would have made a movie that's not about Carrie. After all, the movie's tag line is "Get Carried Away". As a Motown gal of longevity, it reminds me of the Supremes, which then became "Diana Ross and the Supremes". Yeah, it's an ensemble cast but somebody's gotta assume the Diva/Star role, demand more money, the best clothes, the top billing and probably the most airbrushing as well.
If there's a sequel, I wouldn't be surprised to see something like, "Sex and The City II: Carrie Carries the Movie".

Speaking of SJP as getting main billing, I thought the movie also went out of the way to show us how fabulous and beautiful SJP is. It seemed like the filming was very flattering to her, her eyes looked very striking, and we had the whole designer wedding gown montage. Sam and Charlotte were cooing and taking cell phone photos and the Vogue photographer is fussing over her. That scene just seemed very over the top is showcasing SJP/Carrie as this great beauty.
Not that I blame her...if I were exec producer, I'd want the same treatment for myself.

Well, I bit the bullet and saw it this afternoon. Not bad. It's a bit long. I would've like to have seen more of Charlotte's husband Harry in the movie. He was a trip on the TV show.
Also, early in the movie, Chris Noth's hair dye was a distraction. I'm glad towards the end of the film, he let a bit of the grey grow in his temples. But that's just me.

I did miss Harry, now that you mention it. Charlotte's storyline was a pleasant anchor amidst the drama.

Well, I finally saw it with my eldest spawn last night and we liked it fine. It sure ain't any great cinematic masterpiece, but I did laugh a ton and even teared up a couple of times. I agree with those who said Charlotte looks absolutely beautiful in it.
At our theatre I only saw two guys, and the place was packed. The guy sitting next to me with his woman looked oh so thrilled.

Heh, yeah I was sitting next to a guy who looked similarly thrilled. I enjoyed it, it was very much what the series was, and everything good and bad about that.
