Movie Spoiler has it now... I am glad I read it. Saves me some money. I may just rent the dvd instead, I predict a late August release.

Wow, what the HELL? How did so many people lose sight of reality in order to let this mess be made? Weren't they putting out hints last year that the next movie would deal more with real life and the bad economy? I guess someone penciled out that idea!
The girls always lived a pretty high life, but nothing like this crap. Some of the clothing is upwards of $20,000 for one dress.
I can't even get started on the Muslim stuff. It's incredibly offensive, and I can't believe someone didn't notice and worry about backlash.
Meh, I'll watch it when it hits the midnight HBO showings.

I can't believe how much better the tv series now seems after those two movies. It wasn't perfect but some seasons were well done and not as silly as later episodes and the movies. There were many sweet and very touching moments that made these women seem more than just four yelling lunatics who cry over everything.
As for that other stuff: I'm Muslim and I often think that Muslims all over the world need to relax about stuff they see as insulting to our religion because most of the time, it simply isn't. But that scene just seems unnecessarily disrespectful. I'm sure they thought they were including some powerful political and feminist message with that. But it just seems offensive.

I can just imagine the part where the women remove their burkas to show their fancy designer clothes underneath. Does Sarah do her big-mouthed/screaming with delight face?

Is it me or does anyone else miss the Carrie that was cash poor? Making a movie this extravagant in an economic environment like this is just plain stupid. It was promising, the storylines coming out a few months ago about Big and Carrie getting hit by the economic crisis. I was looking forward to the movie to see how Carrie would handle being back on a bit of a budget.

I didn't mind the new movie too much, having said that, it's a far cry from the wit and fun of the show. I liked that Carrie's apartment is still part of their world, it was always my favourite of all the girls' homes. I did like small details that were revealed in the film, like Carrie worked at Bloomingdales and Samantha was a bartender at CBGB's. I was surprised to learn that Carrie made friends with Charlotte first, as she always seemed closer to Miranda or Samantha. But the little 80s flashes confirmed my suspicions that the girls all met through knowing Carrie, it wasn't like Samantha-and-Miranda-were-friends-and-then-Carrie. If that makes any sense...

Is it really that anti-Muslim? Who in their target audience is going to dig that? This Salon article makes it sound pretty offensive. Warning spoilers. I'm sure the filmmakers think that since they are presenting Abu Dhabi as "exotic" that it is actually flattering. I agree with that article. I saw the film today and had to roll my eyes. It does what a lot of American films do: use racist and stereotypical images of Muslim culture in an effort to show how much more liberated and superior Americans are. In the end, Samantha declares how happy she is to back in America where they like sex or something like that. I had to roll my eyes. It almost seemed to me that the whole point of going to Abu Dhabi was to attack it by comparing it to America. Initially, it seemed as if the film was treading lightly and respectfully when the characters first arrived in the city, however, as the movie progressed, it was obvious that the people behind the film wanted to prove some kind of point, their point - that everyone there is backward, that women have no freedom, that the people there hate sex and on and on. I was disappointed that what was a witty and clever tv show could descend into base stereotypes of people and a culture that is much more complex than that.

Well... it looks like audiences didn't fall for this craptastic plot. It was trounced by Shrek at the box office. I have to say- I'm glad too- they have taken a good show with alot of potential and turned it into an offensive, racist, piece of poo.

I am so glad that I did not see it -- I will just remember Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda from seasons 1 - 3.
