And a friend of mine just sent me a email and loved it as well. She wants me to come with her so she can see it again, and she is paying! I think I will take up her offer.

People are taking this movie waaay too seriously. It was fun, flashy, and funny. Just like the series. I loved it.
The best part of the movie, as in the series and the first movie, is Kim Cattrall. Samantha is a hoot.

I tried to have an open mind and I am a HUGE fan of the series. I even liked the first movie. But this was awful, IMO. I kept looking at the time waiting for it to be over. I only laughed out loud once and that was the "Lawerence of My Labia" comment. But to be fair, I didn't laugh alot in the first one either. In fact, i cried. But this had no redeeming qualities to me. Even the clothes were "meh", apart from a shot of some fabulous gold sequined Louboutin's. I really wanted to like it, but it felt like it was trying to hard and not trying at all, at the same time. Bummer

I just came back from it. Yes, the clothes are hideous in their flashiness, and for some reason, each of the girls wear the same garish style (Charlotte's were slightly more reserved). For some reason, Carrie also wears one hideous headpiece after another. It's about as good as the first one, which means not very good, none of the wit or fun of the first few seasons of the show. I also think that (as in first one) Carrie is a high-maintenance biatch. Big's anniversary gift? Awesome, but no, she wants jewelry. Also, the way she made him go to the premiere was harsh; just go without him.
I actually liked the idea Carrie and Big had in the beginning of the movie to help their marriage. As a married person, that seemed like the perfect solution. Also, Charlotte's toast to mothers who don't have help was meant to be an acknowledgment of their privilege, I think (although it came off as the opposite). And Carrie has very thin skin for a writer. That said, it was entertaining, but yeah, the critic who said it was like watching "gay men play with Barbie dolls" was right on. What really strained belief for me was the fact that these four New York women would be so clueless about the Middle East. A more appropriate ending would have been Samantha being stoned by the fundamentalist Muslim men in the town square.

Things that would have made this better:
1. More Miranda backstory. No way would series-Miranda have quit her job as easily as that. No WAY.
2. Less of Charlotte's screamy unattractive baby.
3. Toning down the Samantha ridiculousness JUST a little bit.
4. Less Carrie and Big. Seriously. Their marital "issues" were really stupid.
I LOVE the show, like a lot of you, and while I wasn't incredibly offended by this movie, it just seemed kind of pointless. I wish it would have been more. And it could have been!!! The Muslim men in the town square scene towards the end gave me an icky feeling, because in real life, very very bad things would have happened to Samantha. I wish they would have gone somewhere other than the Middle East. I did not care for that.

I didn't mind the new movie too much, having said that, it's a far cry from the wit and fun of the show. I liked that Carrie's apartment is still part of their world, it was always my favourite of all the girls' homes. I did like small details that were revealed in the film, like Carrie worked at Bloomingdales and Samantha was a bartender at CBGB's. I was surprised to learn that Carrie made friends with Charlotte first, as she always seemed closer to Miranda or Samantha. But the little 80s flashes confirmed my suspicions that the girls all met through knowing Carrie, it wasn't like Samantha-and-Miranda-were-friends-and-then-Carrie. If that makes any sense... See, Carrie knowing Charlotte first doesn't at all jive with the series. Charlotte didn't know the stories of the guys who broke the hearts of Miranda, or Samantha (Dominick?). And during their one and only flashback to the slutty friend (the one who had the baby shower?) - no Charlotte. Was she just an outsider at the time who didn't know a lot about the friends? Anyway, yeah .. dumb thing for me to nitpick. But it's written by the same fricken guy who did the whole series. Getting the facts right would be nice - since there's so much other crap to hate apparently.

Someone upthread said the the characters are people you are mostly repulsed by and at the same time, you find the movie entertaining. How that is possible I'm not sure, but that's my reaction to the movie. Their materialism and lack of perspective on their privileged-ass lives is obscene, yet at the same time, it's kind of fun to watch.

I loved the movie. I had a great time and I'm gonna buy it. I had a ball. To me, watchign SATC is like my 33 year old version of playing Barbies. They are plastic and stereotyped but I like my redheaded lawyer doll and my brown haired housewife doll. I thought the clothes fit the scenery 90% of the time and enjoyed the flowing robes and scarves and bizarre floppy pants because the whole thing was like a modern fairy tale with no basis in reality at all. If I want a realistic hard hitting movie I can watch Precious or something where Charlize Theron plays an ugly person. But I go to the movies maybe 3 times a year and what I watched today was a blast.

One thing I do have to give the movie credit for, is that Carrie didn't re-evaluate their decision to remain childfree after talking to the couple at the wedding. Enough with the "children give meaning to your life" meme. No offense to the parents here, but I was a bit testy after that trailer for the Katherine Heigel and some dude inherit a baby and then fall in love movie.
