I haven't seen this and don't want to, but my brother went to see it and said it was too shallow. My brother loves money and designer clothes and has dumped a number of his boyfriends because they didn't have good enough jobs. So when he says something is too shallow....whoa. I hear this flick is not doing too great at the box office, which of course has lead to the inevitable "Women can't open a movie!" argument on a number of websites I've been to. I get so tired of hearing that every time a movie with women in lead roles does badly. I have never heard the same thing about men when movies starring men bomb, and that certainly happens a lot.

Wow, that karoake scene was unbearable. I loved the show and couldn't wait to leave this. Place was packed last night though. Oh yes - I think I managed to block that entire scene out. It was awful, and I had completely forgotten about it until I read your post. What were they thinking??

It was awful, and I had completely forgotten about it until I read your post. What were they thinking?? I finally caved and saw this tonight. Sweet fancy Moses, that scene was full of second-hand embarrassment. Plus, "I Am Woman" is pretty toothless as far as feminist anthems go, and it made the girls seem old. I think, considering the whole point of the movie seemed to be Samantha's situation, "Can't Hold Us Down" by Christina Aguilera would have been more appropriate. And powerful. They never resolved the Smith thing. Did she fuck him or not, I want to know! I'm not even mad at this movie from a cinematic point of view, I'm mad because this was the worst episode of SATC ever. I've ceased to give a shit about these characters, and that's a shame because it used to be my favorite show.

I think it's pretty obvious that this movie did itself in through bad reviews and word-of-mouth. I am a huge SATC fan, and I have zero desire to see it.

I wonder if this is it then? Is this the death knell for the series? I wouldn't mind an HBO mini-series that got back to basics.

SJP & the studio want a 3rd movie. What more is there to tell about these women?

SJP & the studio want a 3rd movie. What more is there to tell about these women? A Big Divorce: Life after Big. Carrie gets nothing due to the prenup and has to downsize significantly.

Carrie considers an abortion. The girls counsel her out of it and Big realises the error of his ways and he and Carrie then bond over baby Dior clothes. Awww. The end.

I wouldn't actually mind a third movie to end the series on a better note than this last one. But it has to be really good.
I think a HBO mini series is a good idea. Maybe if they're back to the small screen they'll stop trying too hard and just return to stories that are less shallow. MPK seems to have forgotten that this used to be a show where sex was a way to tell stories about men and women and relationships. In the beginning the fashion was just there, in the background. Over time it became more and more about the clothes and sex for the sake of it. The movies - especially this last one - just lack heart, IMO.
What they could, and possibly would, do for the last one is have one of them die. I don't think he'd kill one of the girls, but I think he would kill one of the husbands.
I actually found the premise that was floating around for this one early on quite interesting: What happens to their lives in a different economic climate? What would they do if they didn't have as much disposable income anymore? However, MPK gave a meta response to that in the move, where they go to Abu Dhabi precisely to get away from the seriousness of New York and the new economy. They escape to fantasy land = the audience escapes to fantasy land.
So I'm guessing we get a movie where they go on holiday somewhere else, Miranda and Charlotte wear clothes and talk about how different life is with kids/husbands, Carrie has a Big-crisis and Sam has sex with people in inappropriate places. Because that's apparently what these former smart and funny characters have been reduced to now: One-dimensional stereotypes.
