Sam has sex with people in inappropriate places. They need to come up with something more original, since that came up during the series I believe. (I remember one scene with Sam giving a hand-job to a conquest in the elevator; it illustrated part of her lifestyle that made her neighbors uncomfortable and it drove her from her building to the meat district.)

A third movie would probably be similar to the first and second, and in that it would put everyone back where they were when the series ended - Carrie happy with Big, Charlotte happy with kids/Harry, Miranda happy with Brady and Steve, Samantha happy as an unmarried woman. The first movie and second movie didn't really advance anyone's storyline all that much, so I can't imagine they'd do something as bold as killing someone off in a third movie.
I think it would be more interesting if the women had real scenarios to deal with, instead of Charlotte pooping in her pants in Mexico or Sam lusting after her neighbor, but I doubt they'd go there. The movies seem to be designed for maximum flash and commercial tie-ins.

Samantha's cancer coming back, Big cheating on Carrie, Miranda deciding she wants to be a high powered professional again. All of these could be good plot points.

I agree that an HBO mini-series might be a good idea. I really feel like they have gotten away from what made the show good in the first place, which IMO is the relationships between the girls. One of the only scenes that rang true to me at all in the new movie was Miranda and Charlotte discussing being moms (and even that was still annoying). The first movie had some of that, which is why I think I liked it a little bit despite it being far inferior to the TV show. I loved Charlotte yelling at Big, Samantha feeding Carrie yogurt, Carrie showing up at Miranda's on New Year's, etc. The friendship moments on the show were even better and made it easy to like the girls despite them sometimes seeming bitchy, shallow, or dumb (especially Carrie). I don't know what they can do to get back to that, but I think it would be best accomplished back on the small screen with 4 or 5 hour-long weekly parts.

Saw it the other day. The mini-series idea is a good one, but it would never happen. All I could think about during the movie was, "Can't they just bring the entire show back instead of filming a movie?"
The nanny storyline would have been totally fine if it was in the TV show, but having the movie be about these little tiny problems is silly. Also, I hated that in the end the nanny was a lesbian. Like, could it just have been that Harry loves Charlotte and wouldn't cheat on her with the nanny? No, it had to be that she wasn't into dudes. Lame.

I hated that Erin ended up being a lesbian too. It just seemed too random.
And I agree that "I am Woman" was a horrid song to karaoke too. Most of the audience at my theater, including me, were like WTF? Maybe I'm young but I've never heard that song before and it wasn't too empowering that way Sam was hyping it up to be. I thought it would be something a little more modern with a bit more punch.

...Big cheating on Carrie... All of these could be good plot points. Carrie will have another breakdown. One of the girls can take care of her again. I'd like to see Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha go after Big with pitchforks.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've read so much about it that I feel like I can almost play the entire thing in my head. I will probably enjoy it when I do finally get around to seeing it because my expectations are very low.
I do think they need one more movie, though (said as the "expert" who hasn't seen movie #2) because most of these franchises work best with three movies - the first one is good, the second one is meh, and the third one is good again and wraps it up once and for all.
Good storylines that would seem logical or natural for the characters: Big cheating, Steve's cancer returns with a vengeance and he dies meaning Miranda has to go back to work to pay for his treatment and support the family, Charlotte gets pregnant again unexpectedly and is overwhelmed, maybe Smith dies and Samanthat hs to deal with what might have been, Samantha has issues with aging and starts into plastic surgery, Carrie gets pregnant.

I thought this was pretty bad and slooooow (listen closely and you can almost hear the AD setting up reaction shots). Stanford's wedding had no context other than to set up the idea of setting your own marriage rules. And the amount of exposition was awful. I guess if I had to pick a scene I liked, it was the two moms breaking down how hard their jobs were. I know a couple of Charlottes in real life who seem equally unrealistic.
I think this played much better on the small screen in general. I thought the ladies looked great but that's about it. The story didn't engage me at all.

I saw it yesterday and liked it. It's not an instant classic by any means but I thought it was good for a fluff movie and MUCH better than the first one. I don't expect SATC to be anything more than fluff.
