Wow- I thought it was awful. I was laughing at all the wrong parts. The gay wedding was not fun- it was crass- and Carrie looked like crap. The lines were so badly read- I was honestly in shock. And they kept emphasizing it's a GAY wedding, we are at a GAY wedding... Then on to the awful Liza cameo- although I will say her legs looked really good. The scene where Carrie and Big are asked about kids was ok- they didn't back down at least. But the "fan" who asked if they were having kids looked as if she was going to cry or kick Carrie when she said no. We go on to the girls regular lives. They do have hard lives -Charlotte has 2 kids and only one nanny! She is even expected to make cupcakes once in awhile ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) . Samantha is going through menopause which for some reason makes her face look like it's melting yet just had a facelift all at the same time. The only time I thought she looked good was when she had little to no makeup on. And Carrie- her husband wants to spend time at home snuggling watching old movies- what an a$$. And he actually suggests they make food at home (once) instead of eating out!! Carrie straightened that idea out- but then he doesn't want to always go out- he actually gets takeout- twice last week to quote Carrie- that means they only went out for dinner 5 nights!!! Again- what an a$$. Then to get away from all of their hard lives they go to the "new" middle east. It is so luxurious they all get their own car and driver- because who wants to spend your vacation with your girlfriends when you can spend it looking at the scenery with your good friend driver? Oh and they also get slaves to cater to their every whim- oops did I say slave- I meant butler (no I meant slave). There is this scene where Carrie has an actual conversation with her servant, and we learn that he has a wife in India who he can only see once every 3 months because of $$. That conversation is very important to Carrie because it shows her couples really can be apart and be happy! She is so full of perspective that Carrie. And sorry- but the whole Miranda, Charlotte ode to mothers scene was awful too. I think some people are honestly searching for something, anything, in this film to be not awful and I guess this scene is it for some. Not for me- it came across as so whiny and spoiled. Oh my god- I have 2 kids, no job, and only one nanny to help me- how do normal people do it?? I have no idea, and neither does Charlotte, but I think going to the middle east, having a slave, and being consumed with her iphone working on her camel will help her gain perspective. I won't get into the last few scenes because they have been discussed alot- but I will say the karaoke was so embarrassing and cringeworthy I was really on the verge of walking out. Seriously I don't know how anyone thought that was a good idea. The last thing that got me was the girls utter horror at the possibility of having to fly home Coach instead of First Class!!! How do they do it - these girls are so amazing they go through so many hardships ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Way to spit in the face of pretty much the whole population of North America during this recession. Oh wait you already spit in our faces with the depiction of the ignorant tourist, and the vapid self involved dim witted woman, and the gay man who can cheat because he's gay, and a guy, and the angry foreigners who hate woman who have sex in public- because here in America- the land of the free- you can have sex in public on top of a car anywhere you want without getting arrested like in those awful middle eastern countries. Oh wait- that's illegal everywhere! Honestly this film has made me lose respect for everyone involved in it.

What did ring true (I guess) was Charlotte feeling guilty for feeling overwhelmed by the whole thing. All she wanted was to have kids, and now that she got what she wanted, it was driving her crazy. That would have been a better theme for the movie - after finally getting what you want, is it enough? What if you don't want it anymore? Charlotte did have perspective when she called Carrie out on the inappropriateness of meeting Aidan for dinner alone. And what did Carrie do? Call Charlotte "crazy"!

I finally saw this yesterday. I'd steeled myself by reading all the bad reviews and spoiling myself for the worst stuff so my expectations were nice and low. So I didn't hate it, I just thought it was mostly silly and boring.
I can say a couple good things about it. I thought Kim Cattrall looked fantastic; really attractive. And the chemistry between the four women was still there. It's just the lines they put in their mouths were just groaningly awful and their 'storylines' were just a bunch of silly nothing which, like some have said, would have been OK in a half-hour TV episode but are ridiculous in a movie.
I didn't have a huge problem with Carrie's attitude to Big at first, because a TV in the bedroom and people having the TV on all the time is a huge bugbear of mine as well. But her reaction to kissing Aidan was so moronic. I'm not saying it's OK to kiss other people when you're married , but I don't think it requires some midnight summit, either. It just seemed like they were trying to whip up scandal from the most mundane things.
Charlotte was actually the one who annoyed me the most; she was really irritating in this movie. When Lily got the red paint on her vintage skirt, I just thought WTF was she making cupcakes and looking after her kids in an expensive designer skirt anyway? These women can't put on casual clothes for one afternoon?
I don't know, this movie is clearly the lowest point of SATC thus far, but I don't think it has to be written off just yet. The franchise can be salvaged.

Loved your recap, dragonflie. I haven't seen it yet but I'm kind of looking forward to it now because of this and Lindy West's review from The Stranger.

Hehe- I will admit I had fun. But that is ONLY because of who I was with and our snarking on it.
The only way to see this film is with one or two girlfriends who you can make comments to throughout the film. I hate people who talk during films, but that is honestly the only way to get through this one without wanting to vomit or have a bleach shower afterwards. And everyone in our theatre (of maybe 10 people) was doing it.
I am not easily offended and I loved the show- the 1st movie was ok- this one AWFUL. I don't know how anyone couldn't notice the racism and total lack of respect or self awareness on the part of anyone in this film. My friend was also really annoyed by the fact that the nanny was gay- like ohhhh Harry will never cheat now because the sexy lady is gay- problem solved! It's another way for them to offend a group- throw away gay characters by making them seem less valuable human beings. Anthony and Stanford are married (GAY married!!!! in case ya didn't know) but on their wedding day Anthony is telling everyone he will cheat (teeheehee so funny!) and the nanny is a lesbian so she doesn't matter at all!!
Maybe if there had been ANYTHING done well in this move the offensive and vapid parts wouldn't have stuck out. The show had offensive things, it was full of vapidness and self indulgence; but it also had humor, and heart, and usually made a little bit of sense. I wanted to cleanse my palette after the film and was going to watch some of the show- but I couldn't, because the characters left such an awful taste in my mouth. So if you go to see it make sure you go with someone fun, and please don't pay good money for this- maybe buy a ticket for another film and sneak into this one or something.

I agree that it was good that they showed Carrie and Big deciding not to have kids, stuck by that, and presented it as fine and normal. I have to say, the fan's reaction was one of the few realistic things in the whole movie IMO. My cousin doesn't want to have kids, and when people ask her "when" she and her husband will have them and she says they don't want to, the reactions are sometimes rather extreme. I've seen people look at her like she has three heads, sneer at her in disgust, or immediately begin arguing with her about why their choice is "wrong."
I totally agree that that angle would have been much better, rather than "drop the girls in a foreign land and let the wacky hijinks ensue!!"

Finally caught this at the dollar theater last night. Wow, it was absymal. So offensive and disgusting. And yep, like many of you I liked the series and the first movie just fine.
Everyone has already pointed out most of the WTF moments and the lines/scenes/plot points that were in such poor taste, but here's one that drove me insane: After nagging the hell out of him for no good reason, Carrie cheats on Big and gets "punished" with...a huge diamond ring. Wow. Utterly ridiculous.
I think this might be the end of the line for them. I can't decide if I'm relieved or a little sad.

I watched this today and, yes, I thought it did suck but mainly because it was so damn dull. Just dull and flat and lifeless and lazy. So boring.

Wow. Utterly ridiculous. Well, I don't think Carrie was due for 'punishment'; it's not like Big's her dad or something and Big's done his share of bad deeds that he wasn't 'punished' for. The whole thing was so dumb, that I hate rationalising it, but I thought essentially the issue wasn't Carrie and Aidan but that their marriage had (completely lame) problems and they were now having a fresh start - but typically, the fresh start had to be symbolised by something materialistic.

That's what I hate about the show: Carrie was constantly getting 'rewarded' with diamonds/their equivalent for her stupidity. She spent $40K in shoes over the year. That's ok; Charlotte will give you her old engagement ring!
