I think the shaving was probably just to shape them, Vulcan eyebrows are a bit more diagonal than human ones. Quinto certainly has enough to work with though.

Right? That would seem a waste to shave off all that hair.

Well I saw it finally, and to be honest, I didn't think that much of it. It didn't wow me. I'm curious why they used Khan as a character, but only for half the movie. It seems like there were two competing scripts, and someone had to piece them together as best they could and came out with frankenscript. Was this film about overmilitarization, or about terrorism. spoilerish question follows << {question} Why did the federation try to secretly put Khans men on Cronus anyway? If they are terrorists, why would they want to help earth? They would probably team up with the Klingons to conquer Earth.
>> I didn't actually count, but I think it would have been interesting to see how many seconds went by before there was another action sequence.

Here is my nerd question: The theme to the new series seems to be very reminiscent of the original movie series, but I cannot figure out which movie it is from! I have looked it up on the internet and the discussion has been about it being a brand spanking new theme, but it feels like it was adapted from earlier movie. I love it, I bought it on iTunes, but I love it because it reminds me of the eighties movies. Thoughts?

I really, really like the new ST film. Better than the first one, which I loved unexpectedly. I think this one has a much better script, with a tighter, smoother pace. I also like that they ditched the truly juvenile crap from the '09 movie--the way Kirk was smuggled on board the Enterprise, Kirk getting chased by that giant spider thing, etc. (My favorite line from Into Darkness was Kirk telling McCoy, "Enough with the metaphors--that's an order.")
I really feel the actors have matured into these roles, and continue to like Chris Pine as Kirk. I was surprised to see less romance between Spock and Uhura, though. Boo, hiss. That was one of the things that made the first film so endearing to me. Also didn't love the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. Khan-lite.
I thought the film was largely "about" the classic conflict between aggression and diplomacy, emotion and reason that ruled TOS. Kirk's way of dealing with conflict vs. Spock's. Thematically similar to the first film, which is fine--this one had a more cohesively satisfying feel for me to care that it didn't try to do anything innovative or shocking.

Just saw "Into Darkness" today. Cumby dominated the film (Although Pine and Quinto were quite good and their chemistry was terrific). Anton Yelchin was super annoying as Chekov this time and normally I adore him. Spock/Uhura seemed under-baked & the movie in general was a lot less cohesive than its 2009 predecessor. Also Alice Eve is a shitty actress. She might just be my new Malin Ackerman!

She was nice to look at in She's Out Of My League, now, not so much. Bibi Besch was so much better As Carol Marcus.

I totally agree, I thought Alice Eve was terrible, but everyone's been talking about her boobs and forgetting about the fact that she's a crappy actress.

I will agree, but add that the every time the guy who played Kirk's son appeared onscreen, I wanted to punch him in the face. Although he did really look like the son of Besch and Shatner.
