I'm a former FT-er, but I never really had the guts to post in the HP thread over there- I tend to be more of a lurker.
Although I've already pre-ordered the American version, I must admit I'm sorely tempted to order the Bloomsbury Adult edition as well. That cover is very alluring.
I had never heard of the special edition of OOTP, either. Probably a good thing, as I'm spending enough money on this series as it is!

I mostly lurked over at the FT Harry Potter thread, but I couldn't give up all the woderful insight it provided into this series. Have you guys seen this Seven Tasks = Seven Books theory? It's crazy interesting, and also just plain crazy that someone could think that out. I can't even begin to explain it, so I'll let the author. Not that this site or thread isn't wonderful, but I thought I'd pop in a link to huge posting board devoted soley to FT Harry Potter posters. They're really getting into it over there!

I only started to like Snape when I found out Alan Rickman was playing the part for the movies. Wonder if we'll see him in old grey underpants?

Oh, it's good to know I'm not the only one who utterly despised Snape until Alan Rickman was Snape. It's like BookSnape and MovieSnape became two different people in my head. When he insulted Hermoine (something about her teeth - it almost scarred me for life) I couldn't help but be consumed by a burning abhorrence for him. Yet, during the movie POA I almost cried when Snape darted out of the Willow, started to chastise the kids and then threw himself in front of them when he saw LupinWolf. It was just so beautiful, and I love him for it. I'm so conflicted!

I'm with you, Svengali, on the Two Snapes thing. Book!Snape is very different from Movie!Snape. Movie!Snape is all cool, bad-boy Alan Rickman, but Book!Snape is just a petty, vile, repugnant human being.

I also have love for Lucias Malfoy because Jason Isaacs makes evil sexy.
I really liked OoP, but Hermione was written a bit too "spinister aunt," with her "No, don'ts" or "You better nots" or "Stop its" or "You HAVE to tell the headmasters" and the like...
I wanted to smack her out of her rule-following paranoia

I didn't think of Snape much till we got those glimpses of his background in HP 5. Then it was like, you could see where he was coming from and why he hates Harry so much. I thought the parallels between his childhood and Harry's were quite interesting. Hope it'll be fleshed out a little bit more in this coming book.

I loved the Snape flashback in OotP. I haven't read the book in a while but while reading it for the first time it totally was one of my favourite chapters. I liked how James Potter was portrayed as a bit of an asshat, but then again, this was Snape's memory so who knows. I agree it gave us a bit of a background story as to why Snape hates Harry so much. Then I thought, time to move on, Snape, he's just a kid and he's not his dad!
Can't wait for book six!

Since I'm the type of person who doesn't even like to read book jackets (like to be "surprised" by a plot), please be very careful with posting spoilers here!! I'd really appreciate it. I'm still sort of annoyed that J.K. Rowling revealed that an important character would die in book 4 and 5. The whole time I was reading the books, I was waiting for it to happen. It took away from the literary effect when it actually did.
