It's going to be a very long evening. First, the magical musings of Tim Burton and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and then on to the Borders party for the magical musings of Ms. J.K. Can. Not. Wait!!!

I wasn't really excited about it until this week. And I'm such a dork - after hearing them talk on the radio about how a store in Canada accidentally sold some copies of the book early I immediately thought "Ooh! I need to get online when I get home and look for spoilers!" then I heard about all the requests to return the books and the confidentiality agreements and got all disappointed.

Before the new book arrives and we all start talking about it, I have a question: Is butterbeer alcoholic? Sometimes I think it's like root beer or something, but other times I'm not sure.

I think butterbeer is like rootbeer too, but we know it is alcoholic to house elves.
Umm... ok... I'm 31 and I know all about house elves. I also know all about Middle Earth and Narnia, so I guess you all know who to come to for geek knowledge.
Anyway, I'll be at my local Hasting's Sat. night for the release*. I'm buying my mom a copy for her birthday, in addition to my copy. I will, however, NOT be wearing a costume. I'm geeky, but I have my limits.
* At the last release party I went to, it was HILARIOUS to listen to all of these adults around me debate the finer points of the books. And there were like, 200 people there, easy. So I guess I don't feel so geeky after all.
I think in this book, Ron is going to make a serious play for Hermione. After all, they need time to let their relationship develop before the ultimate showdown in book 7. (Just speculating)

I know a while back there were "butterbeer" recipies online in relation to Harry Potter themed parties. So I think my husband is going to get me up at 11:30 pm on the 15th since here on post the mini marts will have the book, and since more of the soilders will be out getting drunk in nashville, my chances of getting a book are good and not having to wait until the next morning.

I signed up for a grown-ups-only HP Yahoo group in an effort to get spoilers (because I'm a total spoiler-whore) when the last book was released and I cannot believe the discussions, observations, and debates that go on. They are so prolific I can't keep up with them.
They make me feel better about being a childless adult who likes these books.

Am I the only on who thinks Rowling has given out enough hints to make it obvious that Harry will end up falling for Ginny Weasley? That's my theory. Am I the only one thinking Harry will end up with Luna? The whole Ginny thing seems much too forced and cliched to me. And I, well, heart Luna. She is my favorite new character. I think I remember reading somewhere that Butterbeer is like melted butterscotch, but slightly less sweet.

I like Luna, too, but I just don't see that happening. She is a "weird" person, and Harry is basically a regular, typical type of boy (except for his scar and all that entails). Rowling always makes a point of showing how average he otherwise is, with ok grades, feelings of insecurities, etc. It doesn't really make sense that he'd get together with a girl who always has her head in the clouds. Ginny, on the other hand, is extremely down to earth and practical. In Ootp, remember, Ginny was the one he was finally able to tell about his worries and she helped him come up with idea/way to contact Sirius. Plus, also the "furtive" look Ron gave Harry when telling her he hoped she'd choose someone better for her next boyfriend. Those are all reasons I'm betting on the Harry-Ginny hookup.

But when snuffles dies, Luna is the only person who is able to comfort Harry and talk to him about his death. Luna also knows what it is like to be shunned, like Harry. She understands death. She is the epitome of faith, which harry will need in abundance in order to defeat Lord Voldemort.
Bah. The truth of the matter is, I love the idea of Harry, the hero, ending up with the wierd girl. Harry ending up with the girl who not only looks, but, very possibly somewhat acts like his mother, and is his bf's sister is just too cliched for me. The Harry-Ginny pairing is a very popular ship in the fandom, though.
I can't believe we find out in only about three days!!! It sounds as if some definitive pairings will be made. The shippers whose ship will sink will probably have a collective meltdown. I will pull a Trelawney and forsee many fans vowing to never read another Harry Potter line again!!!!!!! and will rely on eachothers fanon for support!
