Just a reminder to use spoliers when discussing the new book. What would be a good time to end the spoiler requirement? 2 weeks? month?

A month?
Well! I didn't call the Half Blood Prince, I did call the death, but not the killer, and I did call the relationships. I liked the luck potion and the horcruxes. Cool idea to have several of them. I liked the development of Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny, but not so much Remus/Tonks (where did that come from?) and would have liked more Remus. I liked the ambivalence of Draco. I also thought the Ministry flyer was very similar to the booklet we got about household preperations for a terrorist attack, wonder if that was intentional?

Spoil me please! Who dies? Who is the half-blood prince? I won't be able to read for another couple of weeks, come on people.

Thanks to Elissa G for the spoilersshe sent me. I had planned on rereading the other books in prep for the 6th but have been unable to. I think I'm just going to have to jump into this with the knowledge she has given me.

Karen, I don't think she has. I think there are some turns still to come. Could be. I just find it depressing that the people Harry thought were evil seemingly turned out to be evil after all. I can think of ways in which the HBP can be redeemed, but it's also possible that he won't be. It would be such a waste, though, if the HBP turned out to be black instead of wonderfully grey - Harry needs to learn that just because he doesn't like people that doesn't mean they're evil, and I don't think there's been a major character yet who has made him realize that. Not exactly, I got the book in the morning and thanks to time zone differences had it finished at around the same time American fans who started reading after midnight were also done.

HA! just finished, Had family in town and thought it was a bit rude to ignore them. It was annother great book. I love how JK has made the charaters grow. They seem to have the mindset of a group of 16 year olds. Now I shall begin whining for the last book, but then again a part of me dosen't want it to end.

Just finished it. I don't know how I feel quite yet, I honestly didn't see the ending coming. All along, I felt like there must be some mistake. Now I REALLY want to know why Dumbledore trusted Snape. I don't know how I'll wait another two years for answers!

Moving over from the other thread, [beige] My sister and I think that Voldemort did not turn Harry into a Horcruxes on purpose but in a panic after the Avada Kedavra was bounced back at him. The book does mention that Voldemort had one more to make before he attacked the Potters and also that animals (ie: living things) could be used for Horcruxes. Somehow Voldemort survived that attack so it makes sense that he had made the last Horcrux somehow before he was hit with it. Harry would also accidentally be the Gryffindor thing that Voldemort was missing. This theory explains how Harry and Voldemort share abiities such as Parsel tongue and also that Harry's scar picks up on Voldemort's state of mind. Also, since Voldie believes Harry is his greatest threat because of the prophecy he might view sacrificing part of his soul worth it or something. We haven't worked that bit out yet.[/beige]
Wow, that's actually a pretty impressive theory. Apparently, my sister is a lot smarter than I am. I firmly believe though that love is somehow going to factor in the last battle and Harry won't die.

I am so shocked to read how many people love HBP. I was so let down by this book.
<< I grew to love most of the characters introduced to us in OotP. Why cut them out? The end of OotP seemed to be so promising. I was expecting either a lot of action, or a lot of background information. Imagine my disappointment when I got neither.
As for the teen angst; I don't usually mind it. I loved OotP. It's my favorite in the series. Here, I just thought everyone was beyond annoying. I expected some character development, but got none. Like I said on the other post, I HATED Ginny. Hated her. I really hope her presence in book 7 will be minimal.
I knew DD was going to die. I just didn't expect him to go down that way. I refuse to believe he would beg for his life. I am really hoping he was begging Snape to kill him. If he didn't then that was one of the worst ways she could have killed DD.
As for speculation for book 7, I don't really agree with the whole Harry as a horcruxe, even though it is a really good idea. When would Voldemort have the chance to do this? At the end of GOF? I really doubt he could have done it after he was drained of his powers, when harry was a baby - he wasn't even corporeal. Also, Voldemort wants to kill Harry - why would he put a part of his soul into something he wants to destroy?
I definitly agree that RAB is Regulus Black. I think that Mundungus has sold the locket though. I think Harry and co. will have to hunt it down.
I actually have several more complaints, but I'll leave it at this.>>

Moving over from the spoilers thread:
Dumbledore seems to be << Obi-Wan, doesn't he?
Of course! Because the book mentions that he left the Death Eaters.
I always felt that Dumbledore would die, an in front of Harry as well. It's playing on the Merlin/Obi-Wan mythology. But I did think for a while that Snape could die as a result of Harry's mistrust or in an attempt to save Harry.
I did find it a little heavy on the teen love angst. I didn't mind it, but I would have like to see a little more action or detective work. I think Harry needs to find out more about his family. And it does sound like he will do that in the last book, but how will he do that and find the remaining horcruxes and find Snape/Malfoy and kill Voldemort? Book 7 had better be long.
I wanted to see a bit more of Neville and Luna. I found Lavendar tiresome. But I loved that Fleur still loved Bill at the end of the book. I was half expecting her to dump him and for Tonks to sep in in book 7. I didn't really buy the Harry/Ginny break up. He's going to continue his relationships with Ron and Hermione but not Ginny? That's a little too close to the ending of Spiderman for me. Besides, Snape and Malfoy would suggest one of those two to use to hurt Harry before anyone else I would think.
Same here. I really think that so much emphasis was placed on Dumbledore telling Harry that he must follow orders no matter what--no matter how much DD suffersor how much Harry doesn't want to--that there is still the chance that Snape is acting on DD's orders when he kills DD. If Snape is still loyal to the OotP, he would have told DD about Malfoy's assignment. DD might have had some reason to order Snape to see it done.
I did feel sorry for Malfoy. And I think at the end he will side with Harry. But I am sick of the love aspect. So how will Harry defeat Voldemort? By giving him a big hug? >>
