I took "She hit the jackpot" as in Matt Damon is pretty cool. You can see a relationship with Matt Damon lasting. He's rich, famous, and relatable - jackpot! Not too many celebrities fit that bill! Nic Cage: Rich, famous, - weird. Billy Joel: Rich, famous, - old, short, unattractive and a drunk. Robin Williams: Rich, famous, - hairy.

I feel like America is so obsessed with celebrity that any non-famous person who hooks up with a famous person is viewed as having hit the jackpot -- you get to have sex with someone EVERYONE wants to have sex with!!. Regardless of race, background, etc.

I don't see any racism in any of this....why not mention her profession when she's not in "the business"? It's been done before for other women (and men - remember Cher's "bagel boy"?) so there's nothing new here. That's how I felt, too. It's sort of that mindset of a mere mortal getting a celebrity must've been born under a lucky star or something. Regardless, congratulations to the couple. I think Matt is one cool guy, and I love the way he keeps his private life private (or as private as is possible).

Wait just a minute! I was totally riffing off of raqs' list of things that people say about her and her "man-trapping ways," NOT positing that as something I believe. I thought I made that clear with the "Continuing in that vein..."
Not to take it off topic, but I want to defend myself here. I WAS PLAYING ALONG. I am the queen of disparaging that kind of attitude on these boards (even with, gag, Paris Hilton) so give me a little credit here.

I just don't understand why these actors don't get together with females who have skills, like doctors, nurses, engineers, people like that. I know it's snobbish, but what happens if his career tanks or he sustains a severe injury that permanently handicaps him? How will Luciana support the family if he's rendered helpless? I just remember Christopher Reeves and how utterly helpless he was.
Ultimately though, she (Chris' wife) has a skill that can support them, however humbly by Hollywood standards. I find that admirable and I respect her more than I would Luciana. *sigh* Flame away.
PS. I will freely admit I am quite envious of Luciana. I am a big fan of our little Piggy Matt.

I read somewhere that bartenders in Florida(specifically Key West), can earn up to $100,000 a yr. If she earned that much money (plus I am assuming she gets child support from the father of her little girl), she was well off and will be well off even if he ends up helpless like Christopher Reeve.
ETA- She is one lucky woman. Matt Damon, although not tall, is just so damn love-able.

Christoper Reeves wasn't help, his residuals from Superman and other acting jobs took of him and his family just fine. I dont' expect actors to seek out doctors, lawyers, and engineers; because quite frankly most men don't. And as far bartending, in Miami Beach, I'm sure that Luciana was making bank--and apparently she is an interior decorator/designer so she seems to be enjoying doing her thing. I'm sure that even if something terrible were to happen to Matt (God forbid) his new family would be taken care of just fine.

I think the thing is the being a celebrity is unlike any other occupation. These people work together, hang out together, travel together, etc. It's hard to get away. It's just natural for them to start to become attracted to each other (after all, the vast majority are incredibly attractive and that's WHY they're there). Then it's natural to lead to marriage after awhile. Meanwhile they have to deal with all these other things, like sex scenes and deal with the paparazzi, that lay people aren't used to and may be unable to get used to.
For example, next time Matt has to do a sex scene with one of the most beautiful women in the world, how is Luciana going to feel (look, ma, I found the topic!)?
I think for celebrities it's just natural and easier for them to hook up with each other. And the kind of hedonistic, narcissistic world they're in, it probably doesn't occur to them to have a backup plan.

I do think that Luciana is latina. I do think some of the comments about her being a bartender are because of her darker (by Hollywood standards) skin. I noticed a lot of those type of comments when Nic Cage married his Korean wife, every article went out of its way to state that she was working in a sushi bar when they met. I do believe the fact that she was a bartender or what not would not have been in every publication if not for her non-white skin, or perhaps I am overly sensitive. You're not overly sensitive at all. God forbid if he'd married someone...gasp....black...OMG the media would have had a cow. Good for both of them. Well, from what I've seen men are scared to death of women they know have more education than they do. I know a lot of women who are doctors and can't find any man to date them.
