Jeremy Irons is a true Class Act. And he's only improved w age. I first fell for him in Brideshead Revisited too. I heard that he was actually the basis for Anne Rice's vampire Louis in Interview w the Vampire and that she wanted him to play the role of Louis. Unfortunately, by the time they got around to making the movie (which totally sucked by the way), Jeremy was too old.
I actually met him in New Orleans when he was filming Lolita. He was with his wife and they both were very gracious and "normal". No pretense or attitude.

That was exactly the impression I got of them, Angel...very down-to-earth and genuine. His wife, Sinead Cusack, is quite the actress herself (an excellent stage actress, sadly not as well known as some of her contemporaries) and comes from an acting family (her father, Cyril, was also a well known stage actor). She was phenomenal in the few plays I got to see her perform in, including a transcendant Much Ado About Nothing (opposite Derek Jacobi) at the RSC during the '83-'84 season. She (and he) couldn't have been nicer to the students shadowing the productions. Same goes for another actress I met during that season--Judi Dench, nice as pie--but that's another thread.
I first discovered JI in Brideshead Revisited too. So pretty and tortured. Ahhh.

All this talk of Brideshead Revisited and no mention of The French Lieutenant's Woman? Jeremy, Meryl, Victorian England, sexual represseion -- oh how I love this movie. It's like the world's brainiest romance novel. And Jeremy? So tortured and delicious -- he would have been a great Heathcliff once upon a time. In fact, he was so "romantic-leading-man" in his younger days that I was shocked that he went over to character roles at such an eaerly age. (Oh, and the only Disney merchandise I ever bought was a little figure of Scar.) I still adore him.

He always reminded me of Boris Karloff, especially after his performance in Reversal Of Fortune . He just has that facial resemblance that makes you wonder if they're somehow related. In fact if there's ever a biography made of Karloff's life, Jeremy Irons would be the perfect casting choice.

Thanks for those pics, ribbue.
My first glimpse of Jeremy was in the Masterpiece Theatre production Love For Lydia. I had a total crush on whoever the leading man was but turned off the TV in a fit when they killed off Jeremy's character. (The spoiler text is hard to see but you can read it if you select, copy and paste into a sticky or text app.) It's old but I just read that they've released a DVD and suspect some of J's fans will want to see it, so don't want to ruin anything.
I missed a lot of his stuff over the years and saw some that I wish I had missed. He shined as usual in The Merchant of Venice.

I highly recommend the film "Betrayal", made, I think, in the mid 1980s. Excellent movie. Jeremy is wonderful (of course) in it.

Saw him in Callas Forever tonight. He was one of the stars and as grand as ever. Awesome movie, may I add.

Damn - is nobody gonna mention Die Hard 3? Remember that one scene where he's just wearing a military khaki undershirt thing? And the biceps? and The Back?

I downloaded some Irons wav files because I simply lurv this man's voice. So now whenever my computer has an error, Jeremy intones "It's judgment day."
His ad-libs at the Oscars were the first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread. Hilarious!

I liked the French and Saunders Xmas show (I think it was them) where they did a take off of Harry Potter, with Jeremy Irons playing Alan Rickman playing Snape.
