I know a couple of writers are going to the-toast.net as well. I'm super-bummed about Behind Closed Ovens. That was my favorite feature.

I heard they lost a pretty big chunk of traffic when they did that really bad redesign a few years ago. I know I stopped reading them as frequently around that time.
It will be interesting to see what they consider news... Or what approach they take. From what I can tell, their news stories haven't been strong for quite some time.

I can dream that Gawker ran readers off with their annoying-ass 500 Days of Kristin nonsense.

Can someone explain what that was? So they just published a pic of Kristin Cavallari each day with a fun fact? I don't get it.
Also, she's dumb.

I followed Behind Closed Ovens to wonkette, what is up with this site? I know there are inside joke in any forum/blog (vegetarian hot dogs anyone?) but this site is unreadable, literary mush mouth "lertest berk," made up words "talk Jew Talk to Republican Jewishes," and liberal use of foul language (the main meal on this site, instead of a sprinkling to taste) PLUS! the ads literally broke my internet. The site crashes within minutes because there are so many ads (for big breasted women and crotch shots).
I will still read Pinkham on Mondays and sometimes Saturday on my iPhone, but I wish I had been directed (Pinkham moved) to a real news site instead of this.....whatever it is.

Wonkette started as a small niche site and is going through some growing pains as they absorb some of the castoffs from Gawker media, and they took on the ads a few years ago as they started growing for a post-Palin world--before that it was just merchandise and links to their Amazon site, mostly. I've been reading it for ages and while I'm pleased for their success, I hope it doesn't change them. I think of their tone as something akin to living in a world where the Onion is real and our news comes from the Simpsons' Kent Brockman. See: their tab for Journamalism. Obviously, YMMV but I'm amused that I love all the things that seem to be putting you off, famvir. Here's the article mentioned: GOP Candidates Jewsplain Jewing To Jewishes. Goes Well As You’d Expect, Only WorseIt's funny--one of my friends (who is half Jewish) uses "Jewishes" a lot, so I didn't even think of it as a fake word.

Understand, chonies, and I think I could overlook everything but the "berk" business (and that seems to be just one twee writer), but I can't get beyond the ads. I would even pay a reasonable amount to make them go away, but wonkette wants nearly $8 a month to get an adless site. That's what I pay per month for Netflex streaming!
Bottom line, I literally can't read it, as in, the articles don't come up, it won't scroll, and I love to read the responses almost as much as the articles, but all I get is a swirly icon and the site freezes.
And the ads, I'm sorry, but why was it necessary to accept an ad showing a crotch shot of a woman on her back with her legs over her head and the heading "Nasty Girls That Show Everything." (Or some such....I'm not going to look for the exact heading.)

Yeah, that does suck. I think something similar happened recently to IFL Science.
