I was at our high school Spring production and a man 2 rows ahead of me had a ball cap on. I thought that was a venue when the cap should have been taken off.

I agree about taking it off in a theatre where it could interfere with someone else's experience, but a ball cap in a restaurant really shouldn't bother anyone who is reasonable about butting out of other people's lives and choices. I think this rule must date from an era where there were cloak rooms or other places to put one's headwear.

In a nice restaurant, even casual-nice (I'm not talking chain, but not white tablecloths, 11 piece place settings high-end either - specifically I'm thinking of Lupo in NYC, to be honest), I think all genders should remove a baseball cap.

My uncle and my cousin wore caps to my wedding (it was outdoors at a museum but still.) The other cousin (son/brother to the offenders), who was in a punk rock band at the time and has Fuck You tattooed on his knuckles, wore a three piece suit.

I know some men wear their caps 24/7 to cover baldness (much like Dale Gribble on King of the Hill). I've got a friend who does that - I've seen him without his cap one time, which was at his own wedding.

Ron Howard also wears baseball hats all the time to hide his baldness, except I think he doesn’t wear one for fancy events like film premieres and the Oscars. We all know he’s bald so I don’t really get why he hides it most of the time.

Bald men might wear baseball caps to try to ward of skin cancer and/or avoid wearing lots of sunscreen on the tops of their heads. Women wearing caps might be trying to protect their hair color from sun damage. Both of those apply to outdoor wear only, though.

Throughout MLBoy's baseball "career" there have been some dads that I know for years, and then I finally see them one day without their hats and have no idea who they are.

Ah...the Dwight Yoakam Effect...

My husband has been bald since he was very young and wears caps almost all the time outdoors - either to protect from the sun or because his head gets cold. He does remove caps indoors, of his own volition. Honestly I thought he was being a baby sometime about having a cold head, until I lost my own hair to chemo a few years back. He warned me to have hats ready and he was so right.
