Ugh, the fabric store Joann's is in serious financial trouble. This is awful for those of us who sew, as they are the only chain store in the US dedicated to sewing. My theatrical costuming friends are especially upset.

That is a bummer. I just went there to get some small quantities of fabric to do some patching. I'm hoping to get more into sewing with repairs and minor alternations being my gateway. Every online source requires minimum quantities too large for my needs right now.

I just read a piece in the Akron paper (JoAnn is headquartered right up the road in Hudson), that reports their revenue is down in ‘22 & ‘23.
Down compared to *WHEN* Wall Street? During Covid when everyone with gramma’s sewing machine in the attic started sewing masks due to need/lack if anything else to do?
I bet the revenue is just back down to “before times” levels, and they are butthurt that sales don’t keep going up, up, up!

My theatrical costuming friends are especially upset. I love Joann's but have always wondered how they manage to stay open. Everything is always 40% off, and/or there's a coupon for whatever I'm buying! I'm heading there this afternoon to drop some dough; maybe if tons of people do the same they can wait out the dip in profits.

My local grocerystore alreadyhas Valentine's Day stuff for sale. Anyone else notice anything? Yep. I was out on Wednesday, and saw Valentine's stuff at a couple of stores, in amongst the half-price Christmas stuff. I stopped into my local Joann's and they were looking pretty much like "this store is not long for this world" in spite of signs on the front doors that Joann is hiring.

Ugh, yes, my local Safeway had a small Valentine's selection out on DECEMBER 23, and now it has the whole row with a tiny slice being discount Christmas merch.
I went to Costco yesterday and they had some GREAT Chinese New Year's merchandise, it's the Year of the Dragon again. I need to stop by the Asian Family Market this week and see what they have.

My Walmart was putting Valentine's stuff on shelves that were empty of Christmas stuff on Christmas Eve. I had to make a late afternoon run when I realized I had forgotten stocking stuff for my grandson. He was already upset that we didn't have a chimney for Santa.
