I agree about the iPad being impossible to read in the sun. But it is nice in a darkened bedroom.

I just got my Kindle Touch yesterday but the "paper and ink" screen is really nice for reading. I got the version from Amazon that comes with ads so it was cheaper but the ads are pretty unintrusive.

Does anyone have a Kobo reader? I'm mulling it over for my mom.

Hmm, still looking for a PC reader... Another totally different question: Does anyone use a light therapy lamp? If so, can you recommend a good one (hopefully around $100)? I have been told by the same doctor to get one for years now and I was all "uh huh, sure whatever..." But I was so zapped after Daylight Savings last week...Yeah, this year I need some light, I can't keep getting so tired at 4 pm! Any info would be helpful, thanks. I plan on ordering by the end of this week, I'm not playing around. I feel like the people getting out of town on 30 Days of Night, if I don't get light therapy soon I will get stuck in quicksand or nod off on my computer or something! My dad bought me a light therapy lamp by GoLite Blu a few years ago and I've been pleased. Mine is a desk top model, and it is easy to carry around to work, home, travel. They make flexible floor lamp models too, if you want something for when you're relaxing in bed or your living room. I know mine was expensive, well over $200, but I've seen them discounted quite nicely at Costco and Sam's Club. I saw much less expensive lights by Phillips and HappyLight, but I can say how good they are.

Does anyone have a Kobo reader? I'm mulling it over for my mom. I'm thinking about getting one as well, batmon. A colleague brought in her Kobo Vox to the office today and I have to say the bells & whistles (colour, wifi access to Facebook, Twitter, Gmails, watch videos!, etc., etc.) were pretty seductive but Borokat'scomment up-thread made me pause - Can you read it in the sun? And now I'm back leaning towards the version 1.0 / cheapest one because it's got that matte/book-like ink. I think I need to check out some online reviews.

I have the Kindle. Love it! Love being able to read it any time, anywhere. Plus I have the one that has its own 3G service. My friend is getting the Kindle Fire for Xmas. I'm thinking about upgrading to it myself. I know I'm not going to get the iPad any time soon, so the Fire might be the tablet for me.

Laying in bed, holding my Kindle up, my arms even start to go numb from lack of blood, (does this sound crazy?) so I would probably go for a lighter Kindle if you plan on reading a lot.

Looking for a good laptop in the 500-1000 range. Any suggestions? Toshiba? Sony? Acer?

Don't know exactly what you are looking for (like how powerful or for what purpose) but I love my HP Pavilion g4-1117dx notebook. It was only about $400 including tax at best buy, and it is great! I just use it for minimal word processing/very light excel, photo cropping, surfing the Internet (no gaming), and it's perfect. The screen is a nice size for how small and light it is too. My brother the computer tech suggested it as the best of the cheap laptops (and not the tiny ones either.)

I've had an Acer for years now. The thing has been a champ. When it comes time to replace it I'll probably go for another Acer.
