I got my PS3 for:
1) streaming video wirelessly from my PC (though I now wire it in for better speed) 2) Blu-Ray and up converting DVDs.
Unfortunately:
1) Cinavia antipiracy stuff is nailed at the ten-minute mark and I need to stream from my PC to my TV 2) there's no way to hack it for all DVD regions 3) it won't play video CDs
Otherwise, I'm happy with my decision.

I am seriously considering getting an Xbox kinect with some of my tax money. If any Greecies have the system I would love to hear what you like or dislike about it. I don't have a kinect but I do have a 360 and I absolutely love it. I have tried out the kinect at a friend's place and it seems pretty cool. What are you going to most use the kinect for? If you are looking strictly at games I would say compared to ps3 and wii, xbox has the best regular selection. The kinect games are pretty cool too but I don't think they have as big a catalog as Wii yet. But I think it is coming. If you are using it as a multimedia center it works pretty well too. I can play dvds or movies or shows on my laptop on my tv through the xbox. The one advantage of the PS3 is that it does have the blu ray whereas the xbox only has a regular dvd player. The only things I don't like about xbox is that you do have to pay for a membership to access a lot of the features on xbox live. It would be the same for the kinect. It is only $50.00 so it is not too bad. Plus I have heard the online gaming is better through xbox versous ps3. The other annoying thing about xbox is that you pay for things with microsoft points which you buy with your credit card. But the points are some weird number which don't match actual dollars so it is easy to lose track of how much things cost on xbox. Of course if you have a 360 already and are just looking to upgrade you probably know all this. The main difference is the motion sensor games. I like the control of kinect games better than wii's games. In terms of the multimedia center I think the only difference between the 360 and kinect is the voice control. Other than that you get pretty much all the same stuff as you would on the 360 I think. When my 360 finally dies I will probably upgrade to the kinect but I also don't feel the need to go out and buy it right now. Thanks for all that, Bronze. I don't have anything yet so I'd be starting from scratch. I want the kinect for the dance and sports games. Of course that doesn't mean I won't use it to play things like "Modern Warfare" as well. I already have a pretty established workout routine but doing the same things over and over gets boring so I was hoping to use the kinect for some variety. I don't have a wireless modem yet (studio apartment so not really necessary) do I need to go wireless to access x box live? The $50, that is per year, correct? I really appreciate all the feedback, this is a pretty major purchase and it will be my first game system so this is new territory for me.

I just bought an iPhone 4S today. Can anyone recommend what they consider to be the best free apps?
So far I have Daily Kindle, Yoga, Facebook, and Solitaire. TIA!

We git kinct for batgirl because she had trouble with control on other gaming systems. I really like how it works - being able ti play but no controlersto fuss with, plus I think you move more.

I like Words with Friends, eBay, Zappos, ProBoards, Twitter, Pinterest, and WeatherBug. I also love how you can program in all of your different emails--I answer emails on my phone most of the time because it is easier to navigate between my hotmail and gmail accts.

I am pretty sure that you need a wireless modem to use xbox live and you would want that to really take advantage of the kinect features. But check at the store when you buy it. When I bought my 360 a few years ago I did a lot of research on all the gaming systems and imo xbox offers the best overall value. I bought mine originally to replace my dvd player and some light gaming but I find I use it all the time. Plus if you are getting it mainly for the motion games, I do think the kinect ones are better than the Wii. The kinect hunting game is super fun. Although it doesn't really give you much of a workout. I love flipboard which allows you to read your Facebook and Twitter accounts like a magazine. I have it on the iPad but there is an iPhone version too.

why, all of a sudden, are YouTube videos not playing on my iPad? And how on earth do I fix that? I don't know how to "get into it" like I can (or my husband can) with a computer.

Another iPad question . . . how can I display whatever is on my iPad screen on an external monitor, as well? I have a cable that connects the iPad to a regular laptop monitor cable (VGA? I don't know the techie names for things) that we use for presentations on a widescreen TV in the conference room. I don't want to do a presentation like PowerPoint, I just want to show my bosses a couple of apps. It would be nice to do that on a big screen that they all can see instead of working with them individually.
I tried hooking the iPad up to the HDTV that works just fine with the laptop, but there's no image on the TV. I've cycled through all the possible inputs on the TV menu . . . nada.
Is it a resolution thing? Something I need to change in settings? Is there an iPad equivalent of the FN/F8 toggle on the laptop? Do I need an app to display the iPad images to an external source? What the what?

I'm going to be getting a new phone but I'm not sure which one to get. I currently have a LG Optimus One. I like everything except the touch keyboard.
Basesd on that alone, I'd be tempted to go for the Galaxy Glide but it seems like the keyboard is quite flat, so I'm not sure that it's much better.
These are some of my options: Samsung Galaxy S II LTE MOTOROLA RAZR HTC Raider Galaxy Nexus Samsung Galaxy S™ Glide
Any one have strong feelings one way or the other? Should I just go for a Blackberry? (I'm moving to a work plan but I don't want to start getting work email on a blackberry so I'm tempted to stay away from a BB lest people start to assume that I'm game for checking email at all hours.)

Don't go for the BlackBerry (says the BlackBerry Administrator), Research in Motion--the company who makes BlackBerrys--is not doing at all well. Their designs are going backwards, not forward. BlackBerry 10, which is coming out at some point in the future (the answer changes on a regular basis) will change the way it's set up, not for the better....
I'm learning other platforms to move my company over too because we want to get away from RIM.
