Yeah, I wouldn't advise a BlackBerry. I had one and loved it, but the last year has shown that they just aren't keeping up with the Joneses. I switched over to an iPhone in February. There are some things I do miss, but I really do love my iPhone just as much, if not more.

Thanks. That's been my feeling about BB. Batboy asked for and got one for Christmas and I was shocked. Apparantly all his buddies are on it for BBM but it seemed stupid to me.
I hate that none of hte cell phone kiosks have live phones to play with. I want to know how those phones handle, especially the touch keyboards.

I'm coming to terms with the fact that my beloved BB Curve was probably obsolete when I got it a year and a half ago, and that replacing it next fall with a BB Torch, which I'd planned to do, is probably not the best idea any more. Can anyone recommend a non-BB phone with a button keyboard? ARE there any non-BB phones with button keyboards?

See above - the galaxy slide (and android) does have a slide out keyboard. The buttons feel a bit flat to me, but they are buttons.

I've never tried making animated gifs before, but now I'd like to give it a try. Does anyone know of a good free and simple program that would allow me to make gifs of avi/flv files without messing with my computer? There appear to be quite a few of them, but in general I'm a bit wary since many free programs can have features they don't mention, and you end up with an extra search bar and who knows what else that you have to figure out how to remove.

There are online GIF makers like LooGix, Gickr, and Picasion so you don't have to download a program or commit to any software.

Anybody know of a decent pdf to Kindle converter, preferably free or with a free trial?

I use Calibre (which is free) for all my ebook conversion stuff. Though you can upload/email and read PDFs on Kindle without converting them. I usually just put them straight on as PDFs, though sometimes I find I have to change the text size to read them comfortably.

Thanks, tszuj. I didn't even realize you could do that. I'm a noob and I refuse to read the Kindle users guide.

My 9 month old Dell laptop stopped charging, my repair guy said it's the motherboard (not the AC jack or cord) and if he does it it's close to $300 (the laptop cost not a lot more than that). It's under warranty, so Dell sent me a box to mail it off. Since it's out of juice, I can't even power it up. What's the risk of hacking/someone at Dell getting my SSN or other personal info?
This is so frustrating, and I could kick myself for cheaping out and not buying a Mac!
