Cool/weird thing....I have my original Kindle, which is great for outside, but not enough illumination to read inside, so the Fire for indoors, and the iPhone with a Kindle app. I can read outside at the beach on vacation, it's synced so I can read inside from the same place I left off, and if I'm stuck at a RR crossing, or in line at the DMV, I can read synched book on my iPhone.
I read magazines and books, web, email, movies on a plane (Snakes on a Plane on a plane) ...beautiful production values! I don't game much, I like my iPhone better for that. And I still use my six year old iPod for music and mostly for books on tape...err... Audiobooks.
Thing is that the two Kindles and the iPod are still less than the IPad. And I like the portability. The kindles are the size of a paperback book. Easy to stow, easy to use. I still write on the iPhone, however.

Famvir, how do you go about using your e-mail on the Fire -- is there a dedicated app, or do you have a Web-based e-mail account?

Famvir, how do you go about using your e-mail on the Fire -- is there a dedicated app, or do you have a Web-based e-mail account? I just use the web based e- mail, but I use CompuServe, which doen't have a dedicated app on any device. I'll check out the app possibilies on the Fire and report back. I can type when the Fire is in the vertical position, but it's hard in the horizontal position. I guess if you typed like on a keyboard it would work!

My husband and I both have our email synced up to our respective readers, but we primarily use our phones or laptops for emailing. There is a dedicated app on both. We have Comcrap for email, btw.

Sunny, I checked it out and they even have a dedicated app for CompuServe. I'd guess they have a nice easy access tab to any email account.

Thanks, ladies -- that knowledge is a big help! Mr. S has an iPad (through work) and so would be a little more able to support Mom if she bought one of those, but it's a pretty big expense, so the Fire (especially now that we know more about the capabilities and usability) sounds like a really great option.

The sun is starting to shine in Vancouver and so I'm reminded about what I hate about my LG phone - I cannot see the screen when it's sunny out. The screen sucks for that.
Any Samsung Galaxy users here? Do you have the same problem?

So I just got a new droid and have no clue what apps are best to download music *coughforfree* since my apps on my last phone are no longer in the market.
Also my computer is about to die, I just know it. I want to get something good with lots of memory etc. What brand is the best? Even the Macs are expensive, but I want some recommendations, because I read all this system stuff and I have no clue what I'm reading. So pcs are fine too.

Not "for free", but for 9.99/month I have Spotify. I can download as many songs as I want have them on my phone or my computer. They do have a Free App, but you can't search for music on your phone...and I don't think you can "take it with you", unless it's music that you've bought and paid for.
