Is anyone familiar with Scribus? I'm specifically looking for open source graphic design/desktop publishing software. Bonus points: is it idiot-compatible?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable and free QR code generator? I want to incorporate the codes into some crafts. I did a Google search for generators and each time I test the same message in the top hits, the pattern is noticeably different. I don't have a smartphone, so I can't test the results myself. Thanks for any help provided.

I use this site to make regular barcodes for work, and haven't had any problems (that's the direct link to the QR generator). I think the differences might be "filler" squares to make the embedded message fit to the necessary pixel size - I checked the same message generated on a couple of different sites, and even though they looked different the result was the same.

Thanks! I didn't know about the filler squares.

I tried to post some photos on Tumblr and failed miserably. My friends said they got a message that they had to log in to look at my pictures, so I checked my privacy settings, and I didn't have anything set to private. I've never had an account there before and I've looked at tons of pictures. What the hell am I doing wrong? It's very frustrating.

It's pretty lightweight compared to the real thing, but it's free. OpenOffice also has tools that mimic MS Office for basic desktop publishing, which is good if you're familiar with that software already.

Does any one have a microsoft-based phone? I looked at one the other day and liked a lot about it, but I'd love to hear from people who have one (and does anyone know of a site that compares phones?)

The URL you're giving them, is your username at the start or the end? Tumblr is confusing because the URL that you see, is not the URL to your blog. Basically what you see in the address bar when you're logged in and viewing your blog is this: tumblr.com/blog/username and so people naturally give that URL out, but that's the owner's post-access URL and anyone else will get a log-in message. The 'proper' blog URL is this format: username.tumblr.com I'm only suggesting it because I made that mistake when I first got on Tumblr, and I know a million people who did it too. Tumblr don't make it clear, unfortunately.

I left my Macbook screen open last night when I went to sleep, and one of my cats (the fat one, of course) decided to sleep on the keyboard. I don't know what buttons she mashed with her huge belly, but now my browser window is too small and I can't get it back to normal. I can get it as wide as I want, but I can't make it longer. It's happening in both Firefox and Safari - the resize button just won't drag the window down at all. The green maximize/minimize button doesn't do anything, and rebooting doesn't do anything.
Any ideas?
