I don't know, but I have another Apple question. My 2005 iBook recently died and I got a MacBook. With my iBook it sometimes would freeze up and I'd remove the battery to "hard" restart it. The MacBook doesn't have a removable battery...so what would I do?
Actually, this is my second MacBook. The first one lasted less than twenty-four hours. The first time it tried to connect with WiFi it went crazy and started turning itself off and on. It was still doing it when I dropped it off at the Apple store the next day. Crazy. So far no problems with this one, but I worry.

I figured out my own problem - I just had to hide the dock icons in order to get the browser all the way to the bottom of the screen.
Whenever my MacBook freezes, I just push and hold the on/off button until it turns off, then wait about 10 seconds and turn it back on. That's always worked for me - no battery removal necessary.

Thanks for posting, hikertrash. I'd been wondering about that, especially because my MacBook is has moments of wonk, too. Right now the mouse isn't working right. It will work for about five minutes after booting, then it will highlight lots of things and not click. I use a track pad, but it was doing it with a peripheral mouse, too. I don't think it's a virus, but there's no place local that works on Macs.
It's a 2007 refurb, but I know it still has a lot of life and all the software is up to date.

Ugh, that must be so annoying, chonies. Have you browsed around the Apple troubleshooting/tech support forums? I've found solutions to various problems there over the years.

I have, and tried a few things but nothing seems to stick. The last problem I had was a hardware issue--the battery swelled up and dislodged a pin in the keyboard, which disabled the mousepad. It was a pricy but simple fix with a new battery plus a technician realigning the pin.

After a weekend where I wanted to throw my Android at a wall at least a dozen times I'm wondering if it's time to get an iPhone. I have an iPad already. The only thing keeping me from jumping on the iPhone is that I'd want to buy it, rather than getting it with a plan and it's pricey.

I don't have internet at home so I save the threads to my computer. I was using Chrome but downloading took a long time and sometimes it would not save the threads even if it said it had. I am now using Firefox and while is does save the pages I have to manually put the name of the thread and it takes time. Is the a way to set it so that it puts the name of the page as the name of the file?

Why's your Android bugging you, Batmom? Mr. S, who loathes all things Apple -- yet has an iPod, courtesy of his boss one Christmas; and an iPad, issued through work -- was forced to switch to an iPhone when his work-issued BlackBerry went on the fritz and his employer wouldn't let him have an Android. I know he's reluctant to admit it, but I can tell that he likes it. We finally had to root my Android this weekend because I was regularly down to, like, 3KB of internal storage and couldn't figure out why (although the 8 million crappy preloaded apps that I would never have used surely didn't help). Now that I can actually use that space and move things onto the SD card, I'm much happier. The only bad thing that came of the root (that we can see so far) is that it killed off my HTC app for managing contacts. Does anyone here have an Android contacts app that he/she likes and would recommend?

It's less the platform, I think, than the hardware. It's slow to respond (and getting slower), the keyboard sucks, and I can't received texted pictures (I can see them, I click to download them, they appear to download, but I have no idea where they go.) My biggest peeve, behind performance, is that I cannot see the screen outside in the slightest bit of glare. It's maddening.
So I know that I need a new phone and I'm willing to entertain another Android on a better phone, a microsoft OS, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it wouldn't just be smarter to get an iPhone, especially since i have the iPad and I could synch everything. The only thing stopping me is that my carrier doesn't offer iPhone's and I'd have to buy it (the carriers that do offer it lock you into a contract with it and I don't want to be locked in.)
I'm just trying to decide if it's a nice enough thing to have to justify the cost.

The new iPhone is being announced, I think, on Wednesday. It does sound like you have a hardware issue with the phone. Maybe take a look at removing some of the apps you have that could be slowing down the phone, and pulling the battery to reset the device?
