Wow. I just went all the way through August on my FB wall (I post a lot), and I don't see any PMs on my wall. Yikes though! There's a reason they are private!

I checked my timeline too and nothing private seems to be showing up. I wonder if it's something to do with messages posted from a phone? I went to a cyber safety seminar recently held by the Australian Federal Police and the officer went through the fact that (in Aus, at least) things posted to FB via a phone lose a lot of the privacy and security settings that you otherwise have on account managed from a pc.

Well, crap! I post from my phone or iPad most of the time.

It is very strange how they popped up. They seem to be in chronological order with the majority of them being wall comments. Then I would get to a comment that was personal and be like, whoa, that is not supposed to be on my wall. I am not for certain, but some of them read like chat messages.
What makes me mad is Facebook denying it and the media just accepting it. When people first started noticing, all the major media outlets did stories on how people were finding their PMs on Timeline, but it was all a mistake or hoax--just because Facebook said it was. The statements from Facebook were especially condescending-- that these were always comments and that people just forgot what they posted on their walls. Um, no. My realtor found a PM from me on her Timeline about a disagreement I had with another realtor. I remember the incident and I remember sending the PM with crystal clear clarity. I never posted about it on her wall. Facebook is full of shit.
I think that it is not affecting everyone--and I also think that it is only publishing PMs that were sent during a specific time, so if you did not PM anyone during that time span, you are good.

It's not just from phones. A whole conversation between Lanie and me showed up, and I remember having it. I was using my laptop. It was not a conversation I would want on my wall. Crazy. I would never have looked if it hadn't been for Borokat.

I checked and I don't see anything on my timeline, either. I also just checked Snopes, and *they* say it's false, too. WTH, snopes?

I was disappointed in Snopes too. It is everywhere--CNN, HuffPo, they are all reporting that Facebook says that it is a hoax, so that is the end of that. Is this the state of journalism today? You ask a company (that has A LOT to lose) if allegations are true and they say nope, so case closed?
What is irritating me (and this is elsewhere on Teh Internetz, not here) is people posting that their PMs are not on their Timelines, therefore, this is a hoax--and being very condescending about it. If it is not happening to YOU, does not mean that it is not happening. I have read multiple comments and posts from intelligent people saying that this has happened--yet Facebook says, no, these are not private messages, you just used to post more personal stuff than you do now. What kind of bullshit denial is that? I found a message on my Timeline from my SIL's ex-best friend discussing their fallout. I know that was sent as a PM--I don't have a death wish.
My husband thinks that Facebook was hacked, but you would think that they could come up with a better story than, "It is not a private message, you only think it is."

BoroKat, roughly what period are we looking for?

I have seen conflicting reports but I think PMs from 2010 and older are the ones popping up. I know the ones from my husband were from 2010 when he was traveling for work. It was easy to spot them because I never posted on my wall that he was out of town for safety reasons, yet there they were.

PMs sent to me when BabyL died (late 2010) were on my wall, and a fight Lanie and I had in 2009 showed up (yes, yes it was ridiculous we had a mother/daughter fight using PMs; it was a one time occurrence). Not a hoax. I'm really disappointed in snopes.
