Coffeecakes - try this: right clicking on a .gif file in windows and pointing it to another program to open it. The default is set to Internet Explorer, but if you change it to open with Picture Viewer you can view the .gifs just fine. Change the default from IE and you're good to go. Captain - even if your phone screen is dead/dying I would think that you can get your photos off of it by connecting it to your desktop/laptop and transferring the photo files there. That only requires that your phone operating system can still run that function and that your desktop/laptop can as well. Also, depending on what kind of phone you have I found this link with a few helpful tips: forums.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s-iii/201559-screen-cracked-need-retrieve-data.html

Actually I have changed it to photos, and to paint, and to every other program I can find. Only time the gif will work and this is only halfway through, is if I barely go into the folder and click on the first photo. If I click the next button or just click on another one, it's shown as a jpeg. I don't get it, it's Windows 8 and it's worse than my last one which was an old ass XP program.

Well that blows - stupid Microsoft. I did a little research, and it appears that they think we don't need the gif viewing feature anymore, so it's not included in the OS. I think it has something to do with the flash coding, but I'm not a programmer so I'm just guessing. Download irfanview. It's free, and it works for viewing the gifs that you've downloaded. Are you having trouble viewing gifs on the web too?

That sucks. Gifs I can view fine on the internet, but the ones I've saved are the problem. No wonder I had seen someone on ONTD or JJB say that they had removed Windows 8 and put 7 back in. Stupid Microsoft!

The more I hear about Windows 8 the happier I am that the IT guys at work have only upgraded us to Windows 7. I asked one of them about it, and he said that we'll be skipping 8 and holding out for whatever they put out next in the hopes that it's better.

In the "Why is this so hard, am I just stupid?" category.
MrF has an IPad, new Iphone, old Iphone and Icloud.
He had over 5,000 pics on his old Iphone, and his business issued him a new Iphone and told him to save all his info.
He could not download the pictures to ITunes because the file was too large.
I downloaded all his pictures to a file on my computer, plus he has two disks with all his data.
I can get the files from the computer to his Iphone, but I can't get them to show up on the Ipad, or in Icloud.
I downloaded a file exchange app, and screwed with it for HOURS, but it doesn't work.
I've spent five hours over the past two weeks on this, and I hit a wall. Every time I think I have an idea/answer (physically moving the files from the computer to the new iphone. I moved 600 pics as a trial) I hit a dead end. the pics open on his Iphone, but there is no way to sync them to the cloud/Ipad. The other dealio with this is MrF does not want the old files on his Iphone, they will just clutter it up. He wants them in the cloud, or on his Ipad, but I can't make that happen.
I told him to go to someone who knows the hell what they are doing. I don't have an Ipad nor stuff in the cloud, so why I am the IT guy, I don't know.
HELP!
(ETA. Am I correct that all pics have to be added to photostream, and photostream only holds 1,000 pics, so what he is asking me to do is impossible?)

Have you thought about uploading his pictures to Flickr, Shutterfly, Picasa, or another on-line photo site where he could access the photos via WiFi? Another option is to use Dropbox, which is a free "cloud" app for both Android and Mac platforms, but where one can purchase more space if necessary. It is super easy to download and can be set up to sync so that photos taken from phones or pads will automatically be saved in the Dropbox. That's what I currently use because I had nothing but problems with iCloud.

Thanks gigiree! He has all his pics already on Picasa, they go in when they are posted to the computer, so they are all there. It's a place to start.
ETA, I asked about downloading the Picasa app, MrF said sure, I told him it was $2.99, he said it should be free, so I downloaded the free app. His first complaint was "Why are there ads?" I need to walk away...just walk away....

The dropbox app is free too, famvir. Good luck.

Technolgy question, got on a school computer to work on papers, stuck in my jump drive then noticed the computer was acting all virusy. The computer recognised my files but did not open them. Could my jump drive be compromised now?
