I think I've figured out how to keep gmail from remembering email accounts so it won't trick you in the future to link separate email accounts into a google+ profile. If you log into gmail in a web browser, some of you may have noticed that it remembered your email username (the stuff before '@'), and you can't enter a different email username without linking it using the account management link.
you can stop accepting cookies, but this can be a pain when dealing with other websites.
firefox instructions:
1. delete your google+ profile 2. log out of gmail 3. go to tools/options/privacy tab 4. click on remove individual cookies, it will be in blue. 5. search for cookies named accounts.google.com, 4 should be found 6. remove these cookies
now, when you go back to gmail.com, the username field should be unpopulated
MAKE SURE YOU UNCHECK REMEMBER ME!
the first time you log in, gmail will ask you if you want to create a google+ profile, say no to this.
It will probably keep prompting you to create a google+ profile occasionally, every time it does, say no.

Ok, the good computer in the house is a Lenovo thinkpad. It is an i5 dual core 2.4 ghz processor, with 3 gigs of ram running Windows Vista Enterprise. The crappy computer is an Asus motherboard p4p800-mx with an intel pentium 4 processor (2.26? ghz) single threaded, with 2 gigs of ram running Linux Debian 7.4. I mainly use it for storage and a file server.
On which computer do you think I can watch videos from a shared folder over wifi without interruptions of any kind?
Yep, you guessed it, the old crappy linux computer.
(i.e. when browsing to the shared folder from my phone or the laptop, no problems. When trying to watch the same video from linux, with the file located on the laptop, it is not smooth at all)
This is why I hate Windows.

I'm thinking about moving my small business email to Google Apps from Exchange. We use a lot of shared calendars, but it looks like they'd be supported in Google Apps. Anyone have any experience with using it, and in particular using their support? We're not tech savvy (but apparently neither is the guy hosting our Exchange email, hence our considering other options!)

Just bought a Lenovo Yoga tablet. Just have to figure out the ePrint app from HP and we're good to go.
ETA: If you are addicted to Chrome, the way I am, do not purchase a Microsoft Surface. Had no idea MS and Google were in a pissing match that would not allow Google or Firefox on the Surface.

I would not purposely buy technology from a software company as the technology is likely to be hardwired to their own software, which they invariably find a way to make you pay more for at some point.

Dear google
Please stop asking me for my cell phone #. I have no intention of giving it to you. I am not dumb enough to forget a password that I use every day. I also have no intention to allow you to sell my information to anyone.
Thanks
PS: why don't you give out the phone #'s of all the people who run Google? You know, as a sign of good faith? No? Didn't think so. Just so we understand each other.

And if you lose your password, there's always the link to reset it. Google can have my cell # when they offer to pay the bill.
I had problems with Google not liking my password and always needed to change it. Amazingly, this stopped when I practically changed the password to FUGoogle (not actual password). Funny how things work.

My issue with Google is that they keep insisting that I go by my real name on YouTube, I swear I have to switch it back to my chosen screen name every damn time I go there. I have a screen name for a reason.

I have a screen name for a reason. I KNOW! This drives me nuttiest of all. If I'd wanted to use my real name, I WOULD HAVE USED MY REAL NAME.

I am curious about spam email. Apparently my email has slipped into some black hole of spam and is replicating logarithmically.
I actually don't mind this as much as spam phone calls because I can handle them in my own time, and on the iPhone, it's just check, check, check times 25, delete. That's what, 20 seconds?
My son said not to unsubscribe because then they know it's an active address, so I only unsubscribe from legit sites.
But it's been a while since I've been on anyone's radar, and three days ago I started to get these, "Lindsey Sex List, Miley nip slip, Bachelor bride pregnant" crap. Now I'm getting weight loss spam as well...all with varying addresses.
Will they stop eventually? Do you guys know how spam works currently? How to handle it?

Does anyone know if it's possible to remove Tumblr followers so that they aren't visible in your follower count? I started a Tumblr and already have two porn blogs following me: I suspect some others might be spam blogs too, but the preview photos of those two make it clear. I tried to look up information about Tumblr's block/ignore but haven't yet managed to find a good explanation of what are all the things they do, though I get the feeling that I might be stuck with those spam followers until the end of Tumblr. None of them has liked a single thing I've posted, which is apparently a thing spam followers do, they're just there.
