I don't have cellular service on my ipad, just wifi, but I use the crap out of it everyday. I got it initially as a remote for the mixing console at gigs, but the rest of the time it's awesome-movies on planes (even when the jackass in front of me slams his seat back as soon as the wheels are up), magazines, Monopoly whenever I want...
I resisted as long as I could, but it's friggin' awesome.

I am officially sick and tired of social media and made to give out what should be private information just to do simple things.

I hear you. I hate that so many websites require registration and they almost force you to use Facebook. I refuse to have that much crap on my feed, so I have to waste time registering for all these stupid sites.

Here is something for a quick chuckle. Go to translate.google.com and enter random strings of text. Change the language to Czech then click listen.

I am nearly at my wits end. I have been loathe to get into the advanced technology game--I hate that the minute you invest in one thing, a new bigger, better, and more advanced thing gets released next week. Hell, I don't even have a smart phone! I've had my home computer for 6 years, but it appears to be on it's last legs. It keeps randomly shutting down, won't boot up completely, and keeps making a horrible beeping noise. I can only use it in safe mode at this point. I'm not looking to buy a laptop, I don't need a computer for work, and won't need to take it anywhere with me. I'm fine with using a computer at home in my spare time only. Should I take my pc in to Geek Squad, and let them figure it out? How much should something like that run? Would it be worth it? Do they give warranties? Has anyone used their services before? Should I come out of the Stone Age and just buy a new computer?

Babycakes, I'd get a new computer.
Your old one is a dinosaur, most computers are over the hill at 3 years. You can buy computers now that have multiple times the speed, memory, and functions at much less than you spend for your clunky slow older computer. There are great lap tops for less than $400! And a desk top is around $600 with every bell and whistle imaginable.
It doesn't make sense to fix it. You'd pay $200 for an old slow computer that is still buggy as hell. Toss a few more dollars at it, and you have as shiny new trouble free model.

I spent that last hour (in safe mode) googling about repair shops, and pricing, and it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle. I'm stuck in my ways, and I'm used to the devil I know. It'll be 6 years in August since I got this thing, and it's time to let it go. I'll just have to move some files to a online storage site, and get a thumb drive to save some other stuff I want to keep. Same thing goes for getting a phone. I'm still thinking like a broke person. I have plenty of money in the bank, a steady job, and good credit (low 800s), after years of pinching pennies. It's time. I'm going to look at the Sunday circulars, and get a new computer tomorrow. This is ridiculous.

Totally get a new one. I was just at my in-laws and their stupid son (not my husband, the other one!) loaded Windows 8 on their ancient machine. It barely worked, took 6 minutes to load a page. It was like 1992 all over again. We bought them a new touchscreen all in one and it's great. They're really happy with it, it works fast and it's under warranty. It wasn't too expensive either, but well worth it for sanity's sake.

I still have a PowerPC Mac clone in my house. It was the computer in my recording studio, God help me, 20 years ago!
I only have it because I have years of studio projects backed up on CDs (!) that can only be accessed with software that only runs on that vintage machine. I haven't turned it on in YEARS. If I could hook a modern hard drive to it, I would transfer everything and pitch the machine. The software will only run on a machine with a factory installed floppy drive, because the copy protection resides on a floppy disk.
You will be MUCH happier with a new machine. I put off upgrading the studio machine for years, and just did it last month. I am actually excited about my studio again!
On a related note, this is why I love shooting film cameras. Having watched my audio projects disappear into the vapor of obsolescence, I am waiting for the same to happen to digital photographers. There will come a day when jpg is but a quaint memory, and all those terabytes will be in a landfill...

I need help! I am trying to set up a Roku to an older TV - not mine. It has the old school cables, not HDMI, with the red, yellow and blue connections. I am pretty sure I've got everything set up correctly. What I can't do is figure out how to get this older TV to show the auxiliary device (i.e. the roku). I think I only have the remote for the cable (Comcast), not the original TV remote. I am looking to see if that's anywhere. Any help??
