I have bought software that allows you to transfer your files from the ipod back to Itunes, which you can't usually do. So if you do get a newer version you can invest a little extra in the software and not lose your library. I don't remember the name but google and you will find tools to do it. Probably better ones than what I used a few years back!

My understanding is that some older ipods no longer show up in the newest versions of iTunes, so that might be part of your problem.
There are indeed a number of applications available that allow you to manage your i-device, in both directions, that are not iTunes, and there are more available for Windows machines than there are for Apple computers. I have Macs, so I don't know What is available for Windows. This software (whichever you find) is usually available with a limited demo mode, and if you buy it, usually runs between $30-50.

This is true, Apple will stop supporting devices after a set number of years or pushing out updates. This can be an issue for corporate devices, because a lot of times MDM/EMM solutions (Like if your devices had to be "set up" via AirWatch/Mobile Iron/Good to receive company emails) will have restrictions on devices that they need to have certain OS versions or no go.

For the last few days on Facebook, there are a ton of videos that start playing as I scroll. Most are ads, "content of interest" and not from friends. I am peeved to meet three crap notices for every legit Facebook post, but the going directly into a full sound video is so annoying, I just shut down the site. In the past, the videos don't run unless you click on them.
Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks Brookie! Unfortunately when I went to settings in Facebook, there is no video play option. In general settings, I see nothing as well. I soft rebooted to see if that helped...no dice.
ETA, forgot to add that the Videos setting is set to "off" on Show All Videos.

There may be a way to do it in your browser. I googled how to do it for Mozilla and turned it off in there.

The power cord for my MacBook Pro gave up the ghost today while I was in the middle of working on something huge and I had to go plunk down almost $100 to buy a new power cord. This is the third power cord I've had for this computer, which is 2.5 years old. I had to buy the power cord immediately because the battery is going out on the laptop and it has to be replaced soon, so it drains incredibly quickly if I don't have it plugged in. So I had to buy the power cord or I wouldn't have enough juice to finish the project in time. To replace the battery is $375, because the battery is made into the case. I love my Mac (I do a lot of design work, so all the Adobe products just work better on a Mac) but it f*cking pisses me off how expensive everything is and how it's not built to last.
I've had a bad day.
