Illusion knitting! I keep meaning to try that. The scarf looks awesome. I just started a new scarf tonight, looky. The pattern is mindless enough that I can do it while watching TV, hooray! I read a few pages back and... the clapotis I was complaining about like three months ago? Still not done. Not even half done. I've been ignoring it and only picked it back up a few days ago because I got spiffy new needles and wanted to play with them. I am the laziest knitter ever.

Nice scarf - is that the "My So-Called Scarf" pattern? (I think that's the name of it.) As to the Clapotis, it is kinda boring once you get the hang of it. I never quite understood the "It's soooooo addictive - I must knit many, many more of these." I've knit 1 full one and one scarf-size, and don't have any urge to knit another. (And don't worry about it sitting around - I have a sweater that I last worked on in spring 2005.)

That's the one! Here's where I got the pattern.I think the clapotis is a gorgeous pattern, but damn is it ever tedious to knit. I can't imagine knitting a bunch of them. Ooh, Calamity, I love those colours! The yarn is sooo pretty. It's an acrylic/wool blend and I'm not too fond of acrylic but the colours were so lovely that I had to get it. I dunno if it shows in the picture but it has little white threads in it that give it a sort of pearly sheen. (Am I a freak to be gushing over yarn?)

You guys are inspiring me to pick up the half-finished scarf I put down in December. When my grandmother was visiting me in April, she did some more of it, but unfortunately she can't knit too much anymore because it bothers her back. When I was little she used to make me the most amazing outfits, fully knitted. She tried to teach me a bunch of times but it never clicked until I picked up the Stitch and Bitch book. I'm an avid reader and the thing I dislike most about it is that I can't read and knit at the same time. But you guys are so talented and crafty that I might just start again.

I'm an avid reader and the thing I dislike most about it is that I can't read and knit at the same time. That takes two things - practice (so you don't have to be looking at the knitting) and hardcovers/the ability to hold the paperback open with your feet. ;D (I can do it, but usually knit while watching TV or listening to my iPod.)

Knitting during project runway is heaven. If I could find a man to feed me ice cream while knitting and watching Project Runway, it would be nirvana.

All this talk of scarves makes me want to brag a little about my mom's abilities. She crochets, and she made me this extra long, soft, and fuzzy scarf that I love. LinkyLinky #2I don't know how well you can see it, but it's great. I've had women ask me where I got it.

Ahh, I just discovered this thread! How have I missed it!! Around this time of year, I always get the knitting bug. I'm currently making a sweater for my daughter. I love, love, love, Rowan patterns. They are super easy (well, the sweaters I choose are) and I just Tivo shows on history (go figure) and knit away. I also adore needlepoint. The problem is, the hand painted canvas' are extremely expensive and by the time you buy all the fibers and then get the piece finished, you're into hundreds, if not close to a thousand dollars!! Alas, I've only allowed myself to make Christmas stockings for myself, husband, and my two kids. But my main love is photography and I especially love to turn my photos into mixed media artwork. I'm so incredibly in love with the website Stampington and Company.* They have a few different monthly magazines to choose from BUT the store there is amazing. *For the record, I'm in no way affiliated with this company.

I thought I'd share some photos of the painting I did of Kafka. I'm peeved that the high gloss varnish I put on parts of it comes through so badly in the digitial pictures, and I'm not happy with how the photo angle/size makes his nose looks insanely long and distorted, but I'm generally satisfied with the painting. Well, actually, I'm not, but I'm trying not to be so gloomy about it. Somehow, it looks much better in real life than in the photos, but even in real-life, I don't have the look in his eyes right, and that wise, deep feeling which emanates from them. I don't know, maybe I've just been painting the damn thing too long or I'm just insanely critical of my stuff. (But really, one more time, for emphasis, I swear it doesn't look as distorted long in real-life as it does in these damn photos. I probably should have rested it at an angle when I took the pictures, or maybe done something else because, damn, it's bugging me.) Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnyways, here are the links: His Royal Highness"I'm much, MUCH more handsome in real-life than Mommy's rubbish painting of me! Harumph!""Yes, I've got mult-coloured fur striped like a tiger, what of it?!!"Closeup, so you can see all the brush strokes and detailing
