I haven't been watching SVU lately for much that reason. The "personal" episodes piss me off because eeeeeevery now and then they'll do one that's actually kind of good -- the one a couple of seasons ago where Amaro's psycho dad showed up was decent, so was the one with Rollins' sister -- so you know it's at least possible. But then they just take it to stupid levels.

Should we discuss The Menendez Murders under this umbrella?
Edie Falco is her usual fantastic self. I can't imagine a lawyer in today's society giving the finger and getting away with it.
I didn't follow this case that much at the time, since life was crazy then (college graduation was THAT long ago?!!?!?), but we're up to Season 4, and there seems to be some allegations that are even worse than the ones already presented on the show. In my opinion, I think they were abused in a high pressure family situation, but that it was pretty much greed that drove them to it.
I also had no clue about the psychiatrist and the girlfriend. Don't remember that stuff at all.

I haven't watched last night's ep yet and my memories of the actual trial are vague, too (like you, forever1267, I was just getting into 'adult life' with my first job), but I remember thinking the abuse defense was bull. Now, I've looked a few things up and it definitely seems like they were absolutely abused and that played into the murders.

It was strongly suggested that they were skilled liars and opportunists--not that abuse isn't a discussion topic now, but I think it had a more dramatic affect in the 90s, or maybe that's what Law & Order does to you. Their extravagant-seeming spending after the murders was probably not out of the norm for their social set, but that also didn't play well in the media.

.
Oh man, I HATED the episodes with Rollins sister. That girl was so effed up and annoying, I just kept thinking "Why have you not cut her out of your life yet?" I also don't love the actress who played her. She bugged me in True Blood too.

I was all Julia Roberts on Law and Order eh?!? Then I remembered Benjiman Bratt. But yeah charming!
I really enjoyed that article, and might have had dust in my eye reading about Jerry Orbach.

Thank God she said Jerry Orbach was a doll. I couldn't handle it if he was some raging asshole.

Yeah, Brisco was always my favorite. I always wanted to think Jerry was a good guy. And he was.
