Because he owns his show and the Late Late show. The networks own The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and the rest.

Anyone watching now? "This show is brewed by Masengil!" "We just blew $1000 bucks on the pony shot."
(Jon may not be as funny as Stephen, but I still find him sexy)

That NYT piece had me rolling on the floor. It was brilliant!

Especially when John Oliver asked the guy to point out any news in the newspaper that wasn't a day old. Hee.
During the Bush years I was all about The Colbert Report, but I stopped watching after the 2008 election, and now I'm back to regularly watching The Daily Show.

I nominate Amy Poehler. In the event she is unable to perform the duties assigned to her, I will roll up in a ball and sulk. Where in the hell am I going to get my election news from? Oliver, Colber and Stewart all in one year. Who would have thunk?

Well, John Oliver is still on TV, just once a week. I wish he would break his HBO contract and take over for Jon.

Am I the only one not on the John Oliver train? I like him but in measured correspondent doses.

I thought he proved himself host-worthy when he took over for Jon last summer. He has a biting British wit that I like.
