Fuck Rob Thomas. Fuck him to the end of the universe and back. It's been almost a week since I finished S4 and I'm still livid. It legit ruined my entire night. S1 was one of my favorite seasons in all history of television. But, yeah. He really is a shitty writer/whatever. The first two seasons revolved around sexual assault and it was a third of the third season. I sincerely hate him right now. (Which feels dumb in itself, but goddamnit. I contributed to the Kickstarter and we got a milquetoast movie and now this? I'm out. I don't even care about S5.) And the whole "Cuss you, cuss him, that mothercusser," etc. went on way too fucking long and too often. WE GET IT.
The way things ultimately ended up with Weevil also broke my heart.

That's how I feel about all this too. Seriously, WTF is wrong with Rob Thomas? AV Club did an interview with Jason Dohring and you could see him being even more than his normal solemn self. I don't think he has fully processed what has happened (they interview was posted today and at that time he STILL hadn't seen the episode!!) and doesn't want to. He wouldn't even answer the question when they asked are you okay with what the writers did? It's a lot of bullshit and they made it pretty clear early on in this season with Veronica saying that if anything happened to the two most important men in her life that she loved...she'd kill herself. So giving us anything more beyond that is fluff and lies. I think he did an HUGE disservice to the fans, to the characters, and to the show. It's a crock of shit.Such BS. And taking the season to get Veronica into that headspace where she realizes how much she needs BOTH men in her life. To take the next step with Logan and then for that to happen? Such bullshit. Cheap cheap cheap. I hated it. It made the whole season horrible for me.
I definitely liked the Logan/Veronica pairing but I was never an obsessed shipper or overly invested, so I’m quite surprised how pissed off I am at this. His death really sucks. Veronica needed a break from shitty thinks happening to her in her life, but so did Logan. His life was just as fucked up. I’m not always about things getting wrapped up in a bow, but they deserved some happiness. I was never this obsessed shipper of LoVe (Logan & Veronica), but with all the crap those two had to go through and doing it together MADE. SENSE. Growing as teens and into their 20s...now 30s, they've come full circle. If Rob Thomas didn't want things to be wrapped in a bow, FINE. To do what he did in the finale was just MORBID AND CRUEL. Seriously, who the fuck does that? Keep these crazy kids apart, let them fight, break up, keep getting back together. All those stupid TV cliches that happen. I will never, ever, ever, understand how someone could think that this was a respectful and fan-appreciative thing to do.

I just finished episode 5. I appreciate y’all not spoiling me. I suspect I will not like where this ends up.
As to disrespecting the fans? I feel an overwhelming compulsion to say:
“I am a leaf on the wind.”

I've actually never seen a single episode of this show so I don't really know why I'm here, but I've heard about what happened through my friends, who are losing their minds. And it's making me think, why does *every* show have to have a miserable, depressing ending these days? Everything used to have a happy ending, and that was cliche and I get that, but it seems like we've gone so far in the other direction. Now it's like people think if you give a show a happy ending you're somehow a bad storyteller. Everything has to be dark and gritty and should make you want to jump out a window. I'm getting tired of it. I would say I am about ready to turn on the Hallmark Channel, but even that has depressing endings now, in some cases. And if the freaking Hallmark Channel is doing it, you know things have gotten bad.

Ok. Just finished.
Man, you guys are GOOD at building expectations!
I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. You guys had me thinking REALLY dark thoughts!
And I still have no idea where the idea of Veronica being a RWNJ comes from. I think Rob mighta been trolling some folks. Conservative, maybe? Law enforcement skews that way, sure. But more like what a friend calls “republicans of our youth”.

Yeah, I kinda feel like Rob Thomas needs to stop talking. I even heard one critic talk about how she was largely okay (but not exactly happy) with the ending, but after interviewing Rob Thomas, she starting to like it less because she didn't like his motivations behind it. I just didn't think they needed to go that far into "happily ever after" territory just so they could pull the rug out from under Veronica, and I think that's why it feels super-crappy to people. Like, they made it clear that Veronica is having a hard time growing up. She still craved the angry, unstable Logan of the past, and that's just not who he became after he got his life in order. She was waaaaaaay too happy to see Leo for someone with a live-in boyfriend (and was bummed when Logan didn't throw a jealous fit). So...just end it. And make it clear that Veronica is her own worst enemy and she won't find happiness and a stable relationship until she can deal with her crap. But can she? And does she even want to? She didn't actually change this season. At best, she had a scare that made her reconsider some things, but her issues run deeper than that. They didn't need to make it seem like she'd moved past them, because she didn't put in that work. Just show that Veronica is poisoning her relationships herself and nothing will work until she learns how to stop (but again, does she even want to change?). And yes, while people in law enforcement tend to be overwhelmingly Republican or conservative, that's just not who Veronica is. Especially as someone who is a rape survivor and someone who has always been keenly aware of the way the system in Neptune was built to benefit/protect the 09-ers in the top 1% and crap on everyone else, there is no way in hell she'd support the GOP in its current incarnation. And the whole "Cuss you, cuss him, that mothercusser," etc. went on way too fucking long and too often. WE GET IT. Yeah, that joke wore out its welcome, as did most of the banter between Veronica and Keith. Apparently that joke came from Hulu insisting that they keep the show PG-13, when they had written the actual swear words into the script. So this was their joking way to deal with it. But it just got super-old, as did all the sex jokes banter with Veronica and HER DAD. Not to be a prude -the fact that it happens is fine, but when that's all they joke about? Nope. Especially since in the first season the chemistry between KB and EC was maybe a little too good and it took them a minute to find the father/daughter vibe. But also, just let them have more than two normal conversations. Overall I liked the season and them working together, but the fact that they almost never spoke to each other like actual human beings started to bug after a while. I would still be in for a season five, but again, I'm bummed that it appears they want some sort of anthology and Veronica won't be in Neptune. As others have pointed out, it's her connections in Neptune that humanize Veronica. Without those, she's just the "Cuss this!" sass machine I found kinda annoying.

I am so happy I didn’t get involved again in this show after it’s initial run. RT was a hack then, and still is. KB wanted to be the next triple threat. Did I miss it happening? As you can tell, by the end, I hated KB and RT. Still not fond of either of them even now.
Reading that ONTD thread brought back all the memories from that time. I used to be on a VM board. All that gossip? True. I was legit surprised by this 4th season. Didn’t realize the movie had been that popular or that people were clamoring for more. Also didn’t realize KB was willing to go back to a character and an on screen romance she hated. It’s not as if she isn’t working, so I am curious why she agreed to this revival.

I’m utterly fascinated by fiery chemistry between romantic leads onscreen when the actors don’t like each other offscreen. I acted in theater, and it didn’t seem to work the same way. Dislike was a hard emotion to cover up live, I guess.

Jason Dohring was even heartbroken. Veronica could have went off and done her thing while Logan was on one of his missions or what have you. Good lord. Gah. I'm still a little ate up about it.

Jason Dohring is a scientologist?! I'm new to the Veronica Mars world and this was not something I knew before. I thought he was good as Logan, but I also hate supporting scientology so maybe I'm fine with the ending now.
