Re; Brady- I agree. I think it's all a trope to make Miranda's life look miserable (when in reality it's not- any misery is her own doing). Steve is now a geriatric 85 year ld who can't hear and bumbles around (yet- is somehow in my eye still immensely more likable than this version of Miranda). Miranda's son is an a$$hole. Miranda's an ignorant buffoon in her schooling. (seriously- WHAT have they done to this character I used to like so much). It's all a justification (in the writer's eyes) for her to cheat on Steve and "discover" her new sexuality with the arrogant bully Che.
If her drinking problem gets solved by her discovering her non-binary love of Che I swear I will burn all my old copies of the original SATC.

I could be way off, but after finally catching up on the episodesI don't necessarily think Miranda fancies Che. I think she is en route to pretty acute substance abuse. She seems so ground down and weary, and while she may have an affair with Che I think it is something that is going to turn out being secondary to her addiction. Does that make any sense?

I mistakenly went on "Primetimer" and man, those folks act like a bunch of old people who pine away for the "good old days" and can't deal with the way things are right now. They are all complaining about Miranda and how, "this isn't the Miranda I REMEMBER."
In real life, people can be married for years and "suddenly" split because they're not happy. It happens. To me, Miranda always felt stuck. She left Manhattan for Brooklyn (nothing wrong with Brooklyn, but it wasn't where Miranda wanted to be) and at one point found herself taking care of Steve's elderly mother. She was that person who did "what was right" only to wake up and realize they've been bullshitting themselves the whole time.
The real problem with this show is that they did it at all. If you watch a show like "Harlem" or "Insecure" those shows are products of their time, as SATC is a product of its time.

I can't say the character journey of Miranda makes much sense. She and Steve were mismatched from the start, so I could see that marriage not aging well. But workaholic power lawyer Miranda who worked something crazy like 60 hours a week, Harvard mug in her hand, now not doing much except pathetically trying to befriend and/or sleep with people who are cooler than her is a big departure.
I can't say any of Miranda's arc seems natural. It all seems like she's just being used as a vehicle for the issues that the show wants to portray.

Miranda seems mostly like the actress insisted upon a queer element in the new series and her character is being sacrificed for it. I’m more irritated by her becoming so dumb. I feel like original Miranda would be a mean alcoholic, not the desperate sad one. I continue to be very confused by all the boomer storylines tho. These women are 50, not 75. Hip surgery?

These women are 50, not 75. Hip surgery? Carrie's experience in this episode totally mirrored the experience of my mom, who was in the hospital two weeks ago with a similar problem. My mom is 80. Carrie also spent this episode wearing old-lady button earrings and Minnie Pearl hats. She did not look "aging", she looked advanced senior citizen.

The only positive thing about this latest episode was Samantha's texts, which were typical Samantha. At least that was consistent.

The standout moments for me in this reincarnation are the Samantha moments. The rest ranges from meh to cringing. And yet here I am watching every episode - though if they had done a movie, I would not have paid to see it.

They are all complaining about Miranda and how, "this isn't the Miranda I REMEMBER." I've noticed this too, but the AJLT subreddit is way worse. The series started off a bit wonky for me, but now I don't mind it. Too many complain and complain about this show because they wanted a direct sequel of SATC. Things have changed. The culture has changed. SATC is pretty dated and likely wouldn't be greenlit in these times. There were plenty of problematic aspects to that show.

That was pretty damned gross and inappropriate of Miranda. She was the most practical one on the show, but that was just yuck. I'd have been mad too if I were Carrie. Why is Miranda such a flake? That's my biggest problem is that it's so out of character for her. Again, she was a law partner in NYC. I can't believe she'd be such a boob. And why is she just swanning around NY doing nothing? Why isn't she on the board of great organization or teaching law or something? I guess my complaint is "this isn't the Miranda I remember." But I'm a total hate-watcher. I'll freely admit that.
Something else that would have been nice (as a lady of a certain age) is to touch more on menopause symptoms. Sexy, right? But the public (including doctors!) knows almost nothing about it and the three characters would have been ripe for exploring some of those topics: hair loss, crazy mood swings, night sweats, painful intercourse. That would have actually had some value for the audience. I know they had Samantha have hot flashes in the last movie and eat yams, but there's so much more to it--particularly mood disorders, and taking it seriously could have been a nice point. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing there's a reason I'm not a TV writer. Heh. Still, when Gwyneth Paltrow is more progressive about menopause than the show, there's a problem. Gwyneth should have been a consultant on the show.
But really, I hated the fact that Carrie couldn't give up heels. I can see still having good ones, but there's no reason to wear them all the time. That seems the most old fashioned to me. There are amazing flats and kitten heels out there. And great combat boots or high end sneakers if she really wanted to be on trend. I guess that would be too basic. (eye roll)
