In Vancouver, with a high Sikh population (we have the 2 largest Vaisakhi parades outside of the Punjab), the most commonly used term is "East Indian," used by almost everyone, including the South Asian population. I've seen Desi used as a name for a community paper, events, and a business, but it's not generally used. (Also, while Diwali may be a Hindu tradition, it is celebrated widely here even though the population is majority Sikh.)

I think I'm going to be permanently scarred by the image of Miranda continuing to loudly masturbate while talking to Brody who was just outside her bedroom door. Grim.

I haven't watched this week's yet, but damn, that doesn't sound good. I'm convinced the show runners must really not-so-secretly hate women to keep putting them in these mortifying situations. I mean the show has been one horrifying scenario after another (not having a binary daughter, but nearly everything else).

This week’s episode was directed by Cynthia Nixon, so Miranda’s scenes were all on CN.

Anyone get the feeling the Diwali subplot happened just so Carrie could dress up in a sari?

Even the most cursory research into relations between Hindus and Muslims in India or in Pakistan and clashes both historic and current will tell a Googling show runner that. And now they’ve got Carrie’s new friend Seema - a Muslim name, celebrating Diwali - the Hindu festival. I mean it’s just so lazy; as someone sitting at the other end of the world I was honestly ok with seeing 4 white women in the original SATC. I find this tokenism stilted and cringey. But IF they insist on doing it, then… FFS Google for 5 damn mins and get it right??? Interesting - my high school BFF was raised in a very observant Hindu family (she was first generation, parents were from India) and her younger sister's name was Seema. Show is pretty terrible, but then again SATC was always a hatewatch for me.

I think I'm going to be permanently scarred by the image of Miranda continuing to loudly masturbate while talking to Brody who was just outside her bedroom door. Grim. Also, the flashbacks to her encounters with Che, which seemed to be filmed in a hospital clean room (or Carrie's new apartment instead of her old one) were so awkward. I never watched the original of this show mainly because it seemed shallow and not my speed. Saw the movies when they were chosen by others, no idea why I'm even watching the reboot, but it's quickly becoming a hate watch. I do love Cynthia Nixon's haircut though, it's incredibly flattering. I go back and forth on the color, it's one of those things where you think someone would look better with something different, like someone with glasses getting contacts, then they do it and you go "huh... guess that wasn't it." Carrie's face lift consult was interesting. That photo alteration looked great, but I've never seen someone come out looking that good after actual surgery, only after they've used every photo filter on earth on their pics online. IRL, after getting all that work done, most people seem to end up looking pinched or frozen.

Anyone get the feeling the Diwali subplot happened just so Carrie could dress up in a sari? "I can do that?" followed by a speech about how "well, Carrie, you're going with me to a celebration of my culture, so you'll be celebrating it, not appropriating it." When I tell you I rolled my eyes, I mean, they are out the door. Another bad episode. The only one I sort of have any patience for is Charlotte. I can't with Miranda (although her hair is just so gorgeous /shallow). Also, that apartment Carrie bought was like an operating room, it was so sterile.

I missed the ending - was Carrie's final decision to move back to her OG apartment?
A lot of those huge luxury apartments are very sterile, but it is possible to find something in between that and a bachelorette almost-studio which I'm sure had a lot of inconveniences that Carrie can now afford to improve. Like, what about just a place with a second bedroom and a washer/dryer, Carrie?

I missed the ending - was Carrie's final decision to move back to her OG apartment? Yes. The ending had her in her old apartment and donning her Carrie necklace. I guess she's Single!Carrie!InTheCity! again.
