I bet Vaughn will be giving them intel from wherever he is throughout the season. But we'll never see him again, a la Irina during season 3... Vartan hasn't taped an episode since last August, and he's not expected anytime soon.

I'm willing to bet he'll surface at the end of the season just in time to give Sydney her happy ending (since this is most likely the final season).
I made that call when I first heard the rumors that Vartan was leaving, but I wasn't sure with all the rumors about JG being the one insisting that he go. But now that I've seen the episode and all the looks exchanged between Syd and Spy Daddy, I'm pretty sure they got him out and he's gone underground. They'll spend the season trying to figure out the people who are trying to kill him, and they'll get 'em just in time for Vaughn to resurface so he and Syd can finally make it to Santa Barbara.
Here's one question though - when they were discussing baby names, why was Not-Vaughn imagining children with the last name "Vaughn" when he just got done telling Syd that wasn't his real name?

NotVaughn said that his father changed the families name to Vaughn when he was 18 months old. So I'm guessing Vaughn is his legal last name. At least I hope it is because I imagine he went through some pretty thorough background checks to get into the CIA.
But personally I think the name Michaux, or however you spell it, is a much better last name then Vaughn. But I guess he can't go back to that because the Prophet 5 people are already onto him.
I am so mad I didn't tape this ep because I really need to watch it again. I'm so confused.

You know, I'm actually okay with Vaughn being dead. For reals dead, even. I'm not exactly thrilled since I do love the Vartan, but I understand why it happened from a narrative perspective. EW had a really good sidebar on how nothing bad ever happens to the main characters and how they felt that the Vartan/Garner chemistry had plateaued and this was a way of killing two birds with one stone. It's like how Joss Whedon mentions there's only so much mileage you can get out of a happy couple.
Plus, with much of the Rambaldi stuff resolved (though I'm certain Prophet 5 is related) and Sloane finally being good, the show needed a new plotline/adversary -- and what better one than the people who killed your finace?
If anything, I'm more pissed that rabid fangirls and the like ruined the surprise of this by making a fuss and ensuring that it would be spoilered. The bitterness thread at the other place is full of "grr, I'm never watching again fuss" along with comments like "Why does JJ always have to kill off the pretty?" That's insightful commentary right there (but I thought Boone was pretty...useless). SFU offed Nate and was praised for it, Alias does the same thing and people flip out. Step outside of your crush for a minute and really ask yourself if it was right for the character and the plot. I think it was, especially since Sydney has always been plagued by tragedy, which fuels her drive in a way. I also don't remember this outcry when they offed Francie, but that's because she's not a hot guy with a rabid fanbase.
I think the happy ending is going to be Spy Family related. To me, Jack and Sydney are the core, one true pairing relationship of the show. I think JJ has also indicated such in comments and made it clear that was part of his vision. Hopefully Spy Mommy becomes a free woman and grandmama. Perhaps SpySis will show up if Mia Maestro ever gets out of that coma and into the opening credits.
In terms of character-love, Jack/Sydney/SpyMommy and Sloane (love-to-hate) are miles above Vaughn for me.

I hope you are right about the happy ending being about the Spy Family. I've always cared far more about Sydney's relationship with Jack than I ever did with Vaughn (well, I actually haven't cared at all about the thing with Vaughn). Jack/Victor Garber is really the only reason why I am still watching this show.
I'm just afraid that it will be all Syd/Vaughn because of the level of attention that relationship has gotten so far. I do take comfort in the fact Vaughn won't be around for the pregnancy, so I'm hoping that we'll get more Syd/Jack stuff while she deals with having a baby. I really can't wait to see Grandpa Jack.

I think I just watched my last episode of Alias ever. The only other thing that could keep me watching now is Victor Garber whom I adore. Whether Vaughn is dead or not - does not sound like he will be in the show whether he has gone underground and had a fake death etc. I will miss Michael in this show and JG seems to annoy me more and more in every episode. Sounds like the ratings are plummeting already also.

I love Jen alot. So that's the only reason why I am sticking with the show.

As strange as it sounds I mainly watch the show for Jack Bristow. I know Sydney is the main character but she bores the heck out of me. I like my characters to be a little grey. Not completely good but not completely bad either. That's why I find Jack so interesting.
Sydney is just so.... GOOD. Always does the right thing and lectures everybody else about doing the right thing. She's so sweet and dependable and everybody loves her. That's ok sometimes but I would love to see a little of her dark side. A bitchy side. With Jack and Irina as parents she must have one. And I would like to see a nemesis for her.

Although I could use a little Sark now and then.

I don't like where they're going.
My Vartan love aside, the entire episode was stupid to me.
I don't like that they've written JG's pregnancy into the show. But, I think it's just that JG has been annoying me more and more lately. I can't put my finger on it, but hmph.....
I'll watch it this week and see what happens, but I'm not holding out for much.
